Mechanical Unit Repair System

Suggestion: Mechanical Unit Repair System

I would like to suggest an improvement to the current healing system that would introduce a greater distinction between infantry and mechanical units while giving workshops a more important role throughout the game.

Mechanical units should no longer automatically recover health at the start of each new day. Instead, they would need to return to provinces with the appropriate infrastructure to undergo repairs and recover health.

The proposed repair system would work as follows:

  • Workshops: Mechanical units, such as tanks, heavy tanks and artillery, can recover health when stationed in a province with a workshop. Upgrading the workshop would increase the amount of health restored each day.

  • Aerodromes: Aircraft would require both an aerodrome and a workshop in the same province to undergo repairs.

  • Harbours: Naval units would require both a harbour and a workshop in the same province to undergo repairs.

This would introduce an additional strategic consideration, as players would need to decide whether to keep their damaged mechanical units on the front lines or withdraw them to friendly provinces for repairs.

Why Workshops Instead of Factories?

One important aspect of this suggestion is that factories should not be able to repair mechanical units.

Factories already play a significant role in the mid-to-late game, particularly in producing advanced military units. Workshops, on the other hand, gradually lose their usefulness as players develop their industries and unlock more advanced infrastructure.

By making workshops responsible for repairing mechanical units, they would remain relevant throughout the entire game rather than becoming obsolete.

Their relatively low construction cost would also allow players to establish repair facilities in strategic locations without requiring the same investment as factories.

Additional Notes

The intention is not to make mechanical units unnecessarily difficult to maintain, but to introduce a more meaningful distinction between infantry and machinery.

Infantry would continue to recover health through the existing system, while mechanical units would depend on infrastructure for repairs.

I believe this would add greater strategic depth to Supremacy 1914 by encouraging players to consider logistics, infrastructure development and the importance of withdrawing damaged units from combat.

It would also give workshops a lasting purpose without diminishing the existing importance of factories.

Another thing I would like to add is for ships and planes to have the option to give a command to return to their closest base for repairs to make it easier for players.
