I have seen sometimes that the green patrol zone is not aligned where it should be, mostly when splitting plane groups on the ground before takeoff.
I have gotten in the habit of checking the orientation of the green zone some of the time, just to be sure it is in the right place, or simply don't split groups on the ground.
Like in this case I sent one interceptor due north, but if I go to move it around the patrol zone is nearly 90 degrees away from where it should be, so it returns to base first.
I happen to know the specific conditions to make this happen. I won't post them here to prevent this bug from being abused. I did submit a bug report about it a few months ago.
