When fueled aircraft are waiting on an air strip, and are attacked, they automatically scramble, and use their attacking stats against the enemy.

Try taking them out while they are fueling, or use interceptors to destroy them.

also to Wilde Odin... they were not on an airfield. The post I wrote said they were in convoys. 4 airplane convoys destroyed my level 3 anti armor unit.

Each convoy has a minimum defense value, even if it's not displayed in the infopanel.

For sea transports the value is displayed since some time.

For aircraft convoys, like sea transports, the defense value probably will be also approximately 0.3.

Aircraft convoys belong to damage class Infantry.

An anti armor level 3 has 10 life points and an attack value of 1 against Infantry class.

Four convoys together have 20 (4x5) life points and a total defense value of 1.2 (4x0.3).

The rest is simple math ...

Not to forget the X factor, which in most cases favors the defender.

But why do convoys have 0.3 defense? It's kind of unrealistic don't you think?

WW2 convoys, wether by truck or by train, didn't have defensive countermeasures so what does the 0.3 defense represent for convoys in this game? The truck/ train driver with a machine gun?? LOL

I know WW2 trains sometimes had AA guns but a convoy of aircraft lined up on a road or rail in WW2 would have been screwed against a WW2 anti tank gun picking them off.

Especially if it was a German 88 lol

You forget, the Anti-tank gun is a defensive weapon trying to operate offensively, charging at an enemy. It's attack stats are relatively weak to show this. The gun is not designed to attack.
