Disengagements/ Peace/Cease Fire problems

I recently had the misfortune to have placed Aggressive fire on a group of 8 subs.

I ran into a neutral player and promptly sank one Battleship, and engaged with another and a group of his subs.

We realized our mistake, changed the setting to fire at will and offered BOTH a ceasefire and then peace which the other player immediately accepted. The Diplomacy Menu showed us at peace. The map showed that the units were still engaged.

Sure enough at the end of the first combat round a second combat round started and this time he was the surprise attacker. Once again we went through the process to stop the fighting and once again the Diplomacy showed peace but the units were engaged on the map and with the usual combat count down the war started again.

The units were never able to disengage until one side had been completely wiped out.

This is not a design FEATURE this is a design BUG.

We need to be able to stop a battle in its tracks when a Ceasefire or peace has been declared.

Please fix this.

Also please stop the Aggressive fire position from firing on all neutrals. Or at least may have it designate what neutrals it will fire on.

I think there should be a β€œretreat” option. Disengage from battle even if there is a penalty for doing so. Historically troops were able to retreat, regroup and head back into the fight.

Save the goldfish! They need your help! Goldfish are trapped in small bowls all across the globe!

There is a retreat option in I thin CoN but this is more a matter of having war perpetuate when both sides want to stop.

This looks big. Yes. It is not realistic without "retreat". No general sends all their division without retreating. This should be a great addition.

This is the way the game has always worked. Units that are in combat/contact will continue combat BECAUSE you do not have permission to be on that territory, or extending to sea, to be in contact with them.

You ALWAYS need to share a right of way relation to allow units to disengage, separate, and return to a neutral position, before engaging a peace type relation.

I have a sign in my City Hall: Just Because We Always Did It That Way Is No Excuse To Not Do It Right.

The current situation is poor, and should be changed regardless of how long the poverty of design has been perpetuated.

Ya, but it will caused some damage, Not peace retreat.

Changing it will cause additional issues.

Peace: Means that you are not entirely trusting of another player, and you expect your units to stop them from trespassing, and defend your territories.

Right of Way: Means that you trust the other player to pass across your lands.

Peace is definitely just one step away from war, and war cannot be ended simply by returning to the hair trigger state of peace, where you have given orders to shoot trespassers on sight. In order for a unit to be allowed to leave your presence they MUST be given right of way.

I would counter that with "Just because you don't understand is no reason to change everything"
