This happens a few hours into day 1.
Syria conquers a province of Communist Russia and initiates war.
There is no way ofc that a unit from Syria could make it that far on day 1. So something must be wrong.
Likewise, Karelia seems to be involved in some wrong initial ownership.
Are you in a tutorial game? When it is your first time playing, an AI nation will own one of your core provinces. The tutorial then directs you to recapture that province. In the end, it is like nothing happened, but it shows up in the newspaper.

It did not say tutorial game when I joined. But looking at the games list no games have that title anymore.
So you may be right that I joined a tutorial game without knowing it.
If that is the case, the bug is not wrong ownership, but that tutorial games are not labeled as such on the games list.
There are no defined tutorial maps anymore. Instead, new players get dropped into existing 1.5 Clash of Nations maps, where they get an extra medium tank, as well as lands already captured to give them the experience of recapturing.
Good to know.
But it may keep confusing players just as the early medium tank usually does.
How about including a note in the in-game game info and in the new games info about this?
