I am playing as Turkey in game 3,137,917 and I have air units in Salsk province that used to belong to Caucasus. I am unable to do anything with them. They are in an active level 1 airbase. When selected I have attack, patrol and split buttons but they do no work. Please help.

Planes patrol sector intermittent bug.
Game 3,098,121
Map Pacific
I've had this odd little bug happen at least 3 times in different games but always on this Pacific map.
Hopefully you can see two map attachments. My single fighter patrolling south west of his airbase.
Image two, I select patrol, you'll notice the green patrol zone has moved to the east sector.

How do you get pictures in the post other than as attachment files??
This was my first attempt with map attachments so I'm not sure if I did it correctly but they displayed at least.
I uploaded the two screenshots then you have an option to add them to the document as a thumbnail or full size.
This always occurs when you split planes while they are already in the air. Part of the stack keeps the original unit designation number (Like AB12) and the original patrol cone orientation, and part of the stack obtains a new designation (Like AB13) and receives a default patrol cone oriented due east.pjrobbo wrote:

For this reason I recommend splitting planes prior to their final destination, or while on patrol very close to the destination airbase, so that they can touch down at the airbase and establish the correct patrol cone.
Ok, so maybe my question should be, why does the patrol zone default to the east when I'm clearly patrolling the south west? Is this a deliberate mechanism?
So now I can fly that single fighter from it's current south west patrol zone(an order it was happy to accept and execute), directly to the eastern patrol zone without stopping to refuel but I can't continue to patrol the original south western sector. Defaulting to the east makes no sense. I was never there.
As to "why" I don't have an answer, only that it does when you use the split command, which is why I make my suggestions above the way I do.pjrobbo wrote:

You made me double check I hadn't split the planes whilst in the air and I hadn't. I had a stack of 24 on the ground, Irapuato. Stack was refuelled with no commands pending. I split one fighter from the grounded stack, sent him south west to ID shipping off-shore. Next patrol command I give defaults to eastern sector.
Right, it happens when you split while on the ground too. I shouldnβt have explained it as βwhile already in the airβ before.
Perhaps βsplit after reaching the destination airbaseβ would be a better description.
Thanks for the response although I'm left wondering if this is a repairable bug or do we just have to work around it.
As this has been the way planes work for well over 3 years that I know about, I do not expect it to change anytime soon.
A shame. I have the same problem about the patrol cone and was wondering what to do about it.
Splitting planes and patrolling them into any direction has the patrol cone always points due east. Pretty annoying if you play from east side of the map and practically all your patrols are in the other directions.
But looks like it's expected/intended behaviour..
