Gold deducted for game I didn’t join

I entered one of those special hww maps where you have to pay gold to get in but upon seeing that all the good countries were taken I exited the game without selecting a country. It was under my understanding that if you dont choose a country then the game doesnt take your gold. But it had subtracted 5000 gold form my account and it has not given that back to me.
