Guess ive been censored from chat by a zealous chat filter

Apparently ive been banned from chat. Everything I attempt to say I get back inappropriate comment response.

At no time did I swear, insult anyone, or any of that, several of us were carrying on a conversation about our times in the military, nothing vulgar, most of it was talking about ordnance, vehicles, and deployments in Asia. I did not see anything in the chat rules that I violated, unless being a former US marine offends the chat filter.

*edit* in speaking with phoenix he says that the filter sometimes flags things that you wouldn't remotely think it should

A word of advice though...a warning perhaps would be nice about the type of infraction someone is apparently violating would be a good thing to implement, its hard to refrain from taking an action you don't know is wrong.

Oh yeah, the chat filter hates those guys. I would recommend contacting Jaws or someone else like that.

Mess with the Bill, you get the scorn!

Why do chat filters hate US marines? I don't get it.

Still don't get why he got censored.

Neither do I. Echozulu said it happens with him too, usually when he tries to post links.

Links I quite understand, it's quite weird to get censored talking about weapons and the military in a game where we wage war...

I dunno.

Sometimes it happens to me too, but it censors anything you say. I think it's a bug.

The past is a foreign country.

Lots of people have had this occur to them, so this could be the place to describe it in depth:

The blocking filter is quite old now and in order to deter spammers and trolls (to an extent). It isn't a sure fire way of stopping them, but it was made from amalgamating a few rules together in an automatic system that does not need to get the moderators involved.

It blocks:

Some banned words - I can't say which words are blocked by the filter, and which aren't, because that is against the rules of the chat and forum. Some words are blocked, and some aren't. I advise against testing this in public, because profane language is prohibited.

Typing too quickly - this occurs in 2 different forms:

1) Posting a message that was typed too quickly. Now, too quickly isn't a well defined term, but its a pretty fast speed. However this can occur from posting links into chat. If you don't give enough time from pasting the link before sending the message, you will be blocked. "Enough time" is also a vague term - experimentation has led to inconclusive data.

2) Posting messages in quick succession. Old players to the game have undoubtedly come across this before from an orange message saying words to the effect of "You are typing too quickly. Please don't type within 2 seconds". This has been added to the block function, and is especially prevalent when typing short words (perhaps the aforementioned sex). Although the timer may have shortened.

There is inconclusive evidence that some links are banned anyway - although this is uncertain, but it could be links that have excessive end tags (after the .com), even if you give enough time to wait before sending the lag.

Now, the message that pops up is for "Inappropriate language". However as you can see it isn't just for inappropriateness.

There is a problem with lag. Server lag can interfere with the chat system, and think you have posted duplicate messages. This is the same as posting successive messages, and it will get you blocked. So whenever one of your games goes down (indicated by rotating arrows in html), be wary about what you are saying. This can manifest itself most problematically when only one of your games goes down (I call it the whisper glitch, as it occurs for me when you have a whisper open in a single game, but closed in the other). The lack of "uniformity" in chat creates instability for the chat, and some of the tabs go down, for you.

If you are blocked, there are 2 ways of coming back from it:

1) Quit all your games running - close the tabs in html - as well as the website. Then load up the game, and you should

be unblocked.

2) Wait for the block to end. The block time is uncertain, but if you want to stop it, don't speak during it, otherwise it will only get worse.
