planes defending province

I know there was a recent change where landed planes would not convoy when attacked in province, but I can't easily find that thread. I just observed a light tank attack a province with a stack of planes where the info says tank is attacking and planes are defending. In first round tank lost 4 HP. Planes do not have defensive strength against armor. Can you explain what has changed in the basic mechanics to allow this to happen?

My guess is that there are no land units to defend, the tank will take the province (which makes sense) and planes won't defend or will turn into convoys. Usually, that is what happens in my games...planes defend until the airport is captured.

The point is that the planes status was "attacked by" so they were on defense where they would have no strength against a tank. The question is "Are those planes actually 'attacking' even though their status says 'attacked by'"? This would obviously be the case except that there was one AA there also. The AA showed no in battle status but it still could have defended. Although it is conceivable that the AA had a freakishly high strength in that round 4 HP is pretty unlikely. That is why I'm uncertain if the planes were actually attacking even though their status said defending or if the AA had a freak hit.

They will act like they are flying. Defence bonusses does not apply to naval nor airunits unless they are attacked by certain units.

tanks does little dmg to planes, for ease of explenation purpouses only:

say tac is 100hp, fighters is 150hp tanks does 50 dmg to planes, infantry does 75 dmg. tac has defence value of 50 fighter has defence value of 25 against tanks and 50 against inf.

tahtd ef value becomes a % so just devide.

By the way all values in cow that are stated as 4.0 attack, 2.0 defence etc..

If you want to calculate anything, just remove the period. so attack becomes 40%, defence becomes 20% etc..

So a 100hp unit with 2.0 def attacked by something that does 50dmg against that specific unit, will not suffer 50dmg, becouse it has 20% defence, discount 20% from 50 and voila, you have a ruff number to work with.

another thing, if a unit is receiving a defence bonus, then it will always say: defending against: or; Attacked by:

Assuming all armie or of exact same strenght, morale and set up>

Never will 2 armies display that, but 2 armies can howeever display that both are attacking army n13 for example

if your amry is defending, and you set it to move accidentally or purpously, then you will lose the defence bonus. a defending army does not attack. army a,b,c,d. A attacks B, B gets def bonus, C attacks A, A does not get a defence bonus besude its already attacking. D mixes in the fight and gets no defense bonussus at all and attacks B.

Now thats a mess.

but the defending army will win, even though it has been taken off def and set to attack, the initial def bonus already made some much difference that the mess will be cleaned up. But you will barely ahve anything left ;)

Give me a lever long enough and a fulcrum on which to place it, and I shall move the world.
