Greetings,

Please keep this thread on topic and appropriate. This is a thread to be updated on what is going on, what we are doing to resolve this situation, as well as to ask me questions regarding this issue. It is not to go off topic into other subjects not related to the server downtime, or to post hateful, offensive comments toward the company or the staff.

Moving on, the Developers are aware of this issue, and are working on it right now. We are attempting to clear out some Database issues, as well as issues related with the Data center itself.

I am sorry you feel that perhaps my comments were off topic, or even hateful. You certainly deleted them for some reason, even though it was in direct relation to this very situation and how the staff (until you came on scene) were handling it. The truth, is not hateful, it is simply truth.

However, I will desist, because I have now wasted 5 hours(!) waiting for your servers to come back online, 5 hours I can't get back... units I can't get back... strategic plans I can't get back...

Perhaps, like Supremacy 1914, you care not for more paying customers, or player retention, etc. OR perhaps my posts were quite on topic as regards situations like this and how the staff should use a bit of customer service when handling them... perhaps...

Killings my business, and business is good!

*sighs* How's this for inconvenience: I'm not the most techy of people, so I thought the reason I couldnt log in was due to my computer, and not the game. So I've been frustratedly spending a great deal of time trying and trying to figure out a way to resolve the problem. I got sick of it crashing, so finally got around to trying to find out what the gateway error was exactly. That led me to a "it could be you, but it's likely it's them... it could still be you though...". Then I tried finding out if the game was down or not, and got... nothing. Until I finally remembered I could check the forums. So I found the forums, only to find I couldnt log in, due to the issues with the game, it being so... whatever it is, it wouldnt even accept my log in. So I've read through this thread, rah rah rah, read peoples ranting, Pontus' giving people a hard time because they're venting their frustrations, and instead of understanding and trying to calm them down, he's too busy stroking his own ego trying to shoot them down at every opportunity he get and it dawned on me... I've seen how many likes my posts usually get... and I couldnt help but wonder why he had so few... I guess I now know... I'd say going through all of that is pretty inconvenient. On top of it I'm a gold buyer, albeit not a great deal. Just enough to try and keep up whilst I'm learning, and when I'm taken by surprise, or to keep a small edge over my opponents. The last 5k for inconvenience? I didnt even realize the server was down at any point, as I'd had no issues. This time, I've gotten so fed up I've gone out, spent money buying console games, and surely won't be spending on here again anytime soon. Down for maintenance and all that, I understand. It's got to be done, and it's got to be done to ensure that situations like this one DOESNT happen. Personally, I'm rather disatisfied.

Now, Mod's, there are questions being asked which are being blatently ignored. This is bad form. It reflects even worse on the current situation and only amplifies the frustrations and problems.

So I'll ask them clearly and concisely if I can, and I'm hoping you don't just ignore them. Do the community a favour and answer them. If you don't know, just say "I don't know", or "we're trying to find out, but it's taking some time". Not difficult. Very last thing you should do is condescend to your client base, however much in a "fun" way you think it is. Mod's have a job to do that requires professionalism no matter what. So please try better on that front.

#1: How long will the server be down, do you know?

#2: During server down-time such as this, does the "real time" component of the game continue? (ie, do our troops still move, fights still take place, buildings and research continue, or do they stall until the game is back up?)

#3: What information can you provide regarding WHY this situation has occured, if any?

#4: Why is there no clear information that the game is down, no news, no email, no "The game is currently unavailable, we apologise for any inconvenience" messages when you try to open the website?

we re all waitin. paid 11000 gold yesterday and can t get all that i could manage.

how long will it take to solve the problem?

perhaps some info how long may it take mods etc?

As I have stated before, you have our sincerest apologies for the inconvenience.

It should be realized that due to the Holidays, it is Sunday, among other things, that their would of been a slight delay in regards to this issue. Many of the Developers had to personally get out of bed, and are currently working hard to rectify this.

Furthermore, please understand that due to Server errors, the Developers are willingly at times to roll back the servers. As such, your units may not be entirely lost. This is not a promise, merely a notice that they make take this option if they deem the situation warrants it.

Next, we take our utmost effort to solve these situations. It simply takes time. Insulting the staff, being offensive, or aggressive will not solve the situation any sooner.

Finally, sometimes, some things are a bit beyond our control, especially when it concerns the Data center. We genuinely are not only hard at working trying to fix this issue, but preventing these issues from ever happening. Again.

#1, the server has come back twice as the devs work, but never fully came back. I am unsure as to a timeline when it will return fully.

#2, The real time component of the game does continue when the site is down.

#3, The situation seems to be within our third party database, but we are not 100% certain

#4, There is no clear note on the game because the devs cannot get that far into the main site at the moment.

Thank you for asking in a clear, proper manner so that I can give you what I have. We do thank you for your support and patronage.

Free Time looks good on me

The point you're unsure how long may it lasts doesn t tell us if it is 1 hour more or rather month, aight.

1: The Servers are expected to be back up soon.

2: It may be fizzing in and out of actual time. However, in very bad situations such as these, the Developers usually roll back the clock, so players do not suffer further from the effects of the outage.

3: We believe it is in part due to both the Data Center, and a issue on our own servers. We are currently working hard on this issue.

4: This is in part due to multiple factors. One

*It is a Sunday, and a very early Sunday morning at that. Most of the Developers were in bed at the time, asleep.

*The breakdown occurred so rapidly, that communicating has been a bit difficult with certain elements in the team. It affected quite a few systems.

Furthermore, you can however take this thread as proof of all of what you asked. The reason their is of course no news post, is that the main website has been going up and down. The reason for a lack of a E-Mail is due to other technical difficulties, that we sincerely apologize for, and are genuinely working hard to resolve. The lack of a game being unavailable, is the fact that the game itself is down. We cannot post any such messages, as the website itself is down.

I tried to get to the server through two different routes. from 2am to 5:am EST. last time i tried; I got a message 502 Bad Gateway. Googled it and here's the result.

Best Answer:Resolution

The 502 Bad Gateway error is usually a network error between servers on the Internet, meaning the problem is not with your PC or Internet connection. Even though the issue is not yours to troubleshoot or resolve, there are a few things you can do:

Retry the web page by clicking the refresh/reload button or trying the URL from the address bar again. Even though the 502 Bad Gateway error is reporting a networking error outside of your control, the error may only be temporary. Trying the page again will often be successful.

Come back later. Since the 502 Bad Gateway error message is an issue with the web site's network, everyone visiting this site is probably experiencing the same problem as you. Chances are an issue like that has already been brought to the attention of an administrator at the web site and someone is working to resolve it.

If you can't wait any longer for the problem to be resolved or if you'd like to help out, you may want to attempt to contact the webmaster or another website contact yourself and advise them of the 502 Bad Gateway error you are receiving. The webmaster of most Internet sites can be reached via email at webmaster@website.com, replacing website.com with the actual website name.

If it is possible; It is already done. If it's impossible it just takes a while longer.

already to much time has passed for the game to continue with 8 hours of blackout

i think servers must be enabled with the game state before server crash aka rollback

Ouii Some for me to please :D

Thank you very much for the clear and concise answers in return. VERY much appreciated. I, and I'm sure everyone else as well, understand that it's complicated and there are a lot of unknowns, so thank you, again, for taking the time to try and help answer as best as you can. :)

It all seems to me as a discussion about how it sounded when the check-out clerk said "Have a nice day".It will not have any effect on the quality of the goods you bought nor the time spent already on shopping, but somehow, when that did not sound right, it is a reason to create a major fuss. So un-European...

Again, I prefer this game for the great strategy game it provides. Hence, not for its service, looks, etc. , but for the great strategy game it is (until someone spams the hell out of you with gold, but even that can be handled)

Btw, done with this thread. Have fun with it :)

Ya, the REAL TIME Strategy that you are currently NOT playing in REAL TIME!!!

Do I need to paint a picture, write an 5000 word essay on what the picture is and means and then hold a TED talk before you understand?

The events in this REAL TIME Strategy game take days or weeks to plan, because.... STRATEGY! When you finally unfold your master STRATEGY and the server goes down FOR HOURS you have wasted your time - time you could have spent doing anything - up to and including watching your foot fungus grow - FOR ALL THE PRODUCTIVITY OF HAVING WASTED YOUR TIME PLANNING AND PLAYING OUT YOUR STRATEGY!

Take it as enemy sabotage on communication line between you and your field officers. You think this kind of loss of communication don't happen in real time?

Not that I like when game is offline but really don't need to cry about it... Use your Sunday for something else... I'll go and get some fresh air and enjoy rainy weather :D

Hello, Bytro. And hello, fellow players.

As the second most active user in this community (or the first one seeing as Bill is banned), I don't think it appropriate for you new users to complain and complain about the outage. No use crying over spilt milk. Of course it's annoying, but I've been here since mid-May, and not once has the outage affected my strategy. And please don't call me a noob player, I'm in the top 1000 of the ranking.

On the other hand, I understand your frustration. Bytro, although CoW is in Beta phase, I don't find it normal for so many outages to occur. In my humble opinion, you might want to fix it, because you got lose many players because of this.

This is a problem that affects all of us, and as a community, we should work together towards a solution. Insulting each other isn't going to work.

The past is a foreign country.

hi, my first post and it should happen in a crisis time.

sure such situations are unpleasant.

now, fellow generals, you are safe within your underground bunkers while your (dearly paid) troops serve as cannon fodder. imagine that during the war, some solar flare, extraterrestrial attack did destroy all your communication devices, blinding you from the front news.

yes the dev's did it on purpose, a sunday, the first day of the winter vacation. i could acces one of their e-mail account and i could see that they were paid by some girl/boy-friends, spouses, parents , and childrens that want to meet you in some other ways than through skype (or similar)

so get a life and let the devs trying to find the problem

(will my childrens remember me? i am afraid to leave my keyboard)

Roger that, but it is not like all is lost, like some pretend.

Some of the features of this game I love:

- no alarms to set,

- can go away several days and only log in to stay active,

- don't HAVE to spend gold to win

Only in very rare cases under very rare circumstances, the minutes or even seconds do count. For those that were i.e. just going to move troops to take an empty fort, just before enemy reinforcements arrive, or those in a fierce and timed arty or naval battle, this may be hurtful.

Otherwise it is not worth the drama.

True, but I am in a close fought war with 4 good opponents, vastly out numbered, on two fronts, and just started one of those fierce and timed arty battles against a province where the enemy troops outnumber me, out quality me, are fortified and with air cover. My only hope to pull the rabbit out of the hat and score a victory was to really play very very close attention to detail. -poof= there goes the server. Arrrrgggggg

Thankfully the server did last long enough yesterday to let me destroy one huge attacking force with a similar handicap, and with minimal losses, but I needed to make sure this second battle also takes out his allies main force as well. So I could then shift my air force to the other front and kill those two players attacking forces too.

it's just too hard fought against too many enemy units to have these types of downtimes and expect to stand. One battle can actually change the course of a war.

This is horrible, truly horrible. i just started playing and already my life revolves around this game.

And I was panicking for nothing......

I never will understand why blindly defending the company is good for the community or this game.

Imho users not only have the right to give voice to their frustration over problems about the product , but they even should do it . This is the best way the company can get feedback about what the users dont like and what they should work on to fix it making the game much more enjoyable for their customers .

Satisfied customers -->guaranteed future income.

Oh and the namecalling and such is realy disgusting , yeah I know we who dont like this downtime should all just get a life...
