Was your fighters near its airport?
Strange Fighter Combat
I had a single enemy fighter (lev 1), patrolling over a group of my units (which included AA).
I sent 3 of my level 1 fighters up to overlap his patrol. When his 15 minute attack timer hit, my fighters and ground units took damage, but he took none (still 100%).
This happened twice, and when I engaged him directly with my 3 fighters vs his 1, he dropped to 70%, but my fighters dropped to about 74% from 85% (even though I had 3 to 1 odds).
What gives?

No... 1 province away, and not in patrol circle.
Usually I put my planes in a patrol circle when I want to attack another plane. I think the game is registering that you are just going back and forth between air ports and your destination. The enemy plane has a patrol, so it fires on yours automatically.
How do I effectively engage him without this happening? Just engage further from airport?
My planes were registering as in a patrol circle though.
BTW Sir MS, do I know you from another game?
I personally would wait until you can strike his planes at his airport(maybe build airbases close by?). The game is probably glitching. Or you could try to strike at his path that he is taking but not directly at his destination. Also, it depends on what game you think you know me from?
Let's just say that your name is rather distinctive
I'm trying to prevent him scouting my troop dispositions, so I'm afraid I'm a bit limited in options.
Distinctive eh? Didnt think my name was all too common. The Day Raven wrote:

I've encountered this if I patrol enemy units with aircraft they will take damage after a while, I do not know why. It could be a bug.
