One of my units is attacking an enemy province, but there are no units there, but I can’t capture the province for some reason. Even worse, my unit is tanking damage.

That’s happened to me before. You have to try a few things but it should capture it eventually. The damage is probably from a ranged unit like a RRG or battleship that you can’t see. Either way if there is no unit you should capture it eventually but you better watch out for the ranged enemy!
I have experienced this before..... A stealth unit that I could not see was defending.
I thought that stealth units are exposed when in melee combat.
First, log out of the game, clear browser cache, exit and relaunch browser, then log onto the game again.
I'm not sure if they fixed the bug yet, but recently there was a bug where stealth units weren't appearing when defending. This is most likely that issue.

there have been several issues with stealth units lately.
my favorite is when an enemy unit on your territory shows a ?
Hopefully it gets fixed soon.
I thought they recently fixed a stealth bug. Always seems like there is an issue with them.
