Units disengage from battle when disembarking

Is this a new feature or a glitch? When my land forces fight a ship disembarking troops I have found that when I use the move command during battle it is possible to disengage once troops have fully disembarked. Previously i have also found disembarked troops to simply move past my troops that were fighting them.
