Waiting for Server...lag

This is is getting a tad old. I only play 2 games at once and most of the time on the weekends, I can issue only a couple of commands before the dreaded "waiting for server" icon appears in the bottom right corner. Did the cosmetic xmas stuff cause more lag/issues? Is the game still not optimized enough to handle the increased player traffic on the weekends?
