why is there more gold than before?

when the day started, i had no gold, it was that way for some time, but now i have 8 gold, i never bought or earned gold, to be honest, i think gold is a waist of money for me, so can anybody explain why i went from 0-8 gold without doing anything? (p.s. i never won a game yet)
