i vote keep them they add challenge
Achievement evaluation
So we've been playing with a new element in the PL this month... achievements. What do you think of them? Do they contribute to gameplay and experience? Should there be more, or less, or changed? Should we keep them for the next round?

I say keep them but have fewer achievements . The achievement of holding certain cities maybe like Eastern Dominance . Maybe start off with a low number of points for taking them all then after 5 days if still held increase them and then for 10 days and so on . The daily bonus for coming top of the papers stats maybe scrap them . Just some ideas I have plenty more lol
i would favor scrapping them
they artifically add points to the few and lucky
maybe i would favor it more if there were fewer achievements, but i dont know if fewer would result in an unbalance
Yes, drop the WH achievements. Considering an inactive player won the 'financials' in the July game.NICKYD wrote:

but the WH achiv are good bcs they encourage people to expand! all this is due to make the round more challenging and not just sit out and make naps all the rounds
maybe Africa need an aditional achi for balance. Or less in Europe
Well I agree that the World Herald achievements aren't very good, they are more or less random and most don't encourage early growth (e.g. financial, research, military), so these will be dropped.
I'll look into an extra achieve for Africa, possibly something like Middle east control with targets in Lybia, Egypt, Turkey and one of the small neutrals like Iraq?
Nick (and everyone actually), I'd love to hear more ideas!

NOt exactly about the achievements, but I think something should be done about all the NAPping. Ridiculous. As was pointed out, I ended up farming the whole game because my neighbors all ended up in two coalitions with a NAP. Because of a temporary absence, I was left out of these coalitions, and so could do literally nothing except accept further NAPs to avoid being wiped out early and middle. Oh sure, I could have sent an expeditionary force across the globe, but that's not sustainable expansion, especially without support.MarkAchkar wrote:

There need to be some limits on NAPping, though I understand there is enforcement issues.
That's the problem. PL can't cater to temporary absences.Mohenjo wrote:

Sorry for my delay in replying I was busy being killed on the PL map
The achievements .
Maybe increase/decrease the points depending on the number of coalition members that currently hold the achievement . The fewer the members the higher the points and vice versa for more members the lower the points .
Award mega points if a solo player achieves any of the dominance achievements .
Also allow inactive players to be removed from the alliance . Maybe even consider playing the PL on a different map say for example a randomly selected map each round . We would have to draw up achievements for each map so they was at hand when it was picked each month .
The best idea I have come up with is no attacking me , EVER as I'm nice and don't deserve such brutality from the likes of the Africans and Barbarians who trampled on my flower beds when they entered Ukraine territory or award points to me each month as the mentally challenged should be assisted
. Sorry off on a tangent that is nothing to do with achievements .
Ermmmm where was I ? .... Ideas....Ermmm....Nope there gone but they will come back at some point so I shall shout when they do .
I don't like the achievement aspect in general, but I agree with crazy-nut that the points should be adjusted for coalition size.
I do not like the achievement points at all but then I do not suppose it matters what I like or do not like. If they are there they just are not part of my game unless it is in support of my coalition.
The greater concern with Achievements is the amount of time it takes Roko to administer these small point awards.
Perhaps a simpler system would be for individual members to offer awards applicable at the end of each months play.
For example:
NickyD offer 10% of his end-game points to whomever gives him a plantation and annual golf course membership, anywhere in Florida.
Achkar offers 50% of his end-game points to whoever eliminates any player from the German server.
WH points are absolutely a pain to administer, and as I said we'll drop them since they don't contribute anyway.
The other ones aren't much work, it's really no trouble at all, its no reason to be for or against.

Cop out answer. Bad negotiating or any number of reasons could have left me out of coalitions. It doesn't change the fact that a world wide nap train hurts the game.DxC wrote:

Well it's two different issues. Pl shouldn't make concessions for those that go AWOL. On the other hand naps/coalitions might favor some players/coalitions, especially players that others consider good. So it could lead to a rich getting richer scenario. At one extreme you could have randomly imposed coalitions or disallow them altogether. I don't think the current system is that broken though. What are your suggestions?Mohenjo wrote:
