So.....It's April 1st., and has been for 9 hours on the server in Germany.

When's the match beginning?

Oh, and happy April Fool's Day, one and all!

It seemed like such a waste to destroy an entire battle station just to eliminate one man. But Charlie knew that it was the only way to ensure the absolute and total destruction of Quasi-duck, once and for all.

Well I do have a private life you know, and don't sit at the computer waiting till the server says the new day has started.

But the game was created and passwords were mailed; let me know if there are any problems.

NashBean, you'll need to check your private conversations for how to join the match.

It's so sad to see so few players this month....I've been painting my bathroom with some regurgitated frescos only to check in and see that a bottom-tiered player is taking over my lands while half the playable map is AI. Where is everybody?

we need more marketing for the pl, half COW players doesnt know such thing exist

The only way to accomplish marketing of the PL is by getting more players into the forums. Most players never bother to check it out, or only briefly look it over and leave. The first and best marketing for anything in this game is via the front page Community >> News section of the game. Lately, it seems the only posts ever put up by the staff are either game updates or an occasional event.

Sure, the updates are needed and the events spice it up a little. But they could also do some advertisement in that section. Once in a while, encourage Gold purchases or have an "HC Drive" to increase membership. They can "sell" the advantages of membership to the players. Instead of only having Rosy the Riveter popups, why not have an ad in the News section with some of those great silver-tongued speeches that, oh wait, those are mine. never mind....

They can promote the forums. Just having a simple tab that takes you there isn't enough. Having an occasional promotion might rally the troops to check it out, i.e., "for a limited time, get 1000 free Gold for checking out the forums and posting a comment!" And, once in a while, in the news, they could plug the Players League and other side-events that aren't part of the top-level stuff (i.e., the roleplaying section of the forums).

The News portion of the front page has always had lots of potential. In the past, they've announced a sponsored tank at some WWII gathering in Europe, well, why not sponsor some kind of series of WWII parties that goes from city to city (on a limited tour) and welcoming the fans in those regions to come out and meet one another and interact with some Bytro people and volunteer staff.

So, that News section of the front page is THE first thing people see when they startup the game or do a fresh check-in, etc. Why not use it for more than just updates? The top article should never stay on top more than a couple days. If the staff is hurting for content, they could open up a forum page just for contributions by the more prolific authors (like myself). Then, they'd have plenty to work with and could pick and choose.

Heck, I'd love to write promos for the game. I'm a big fan and it's in my wheelhouse of talents. And I'm not the only one out here that can do it. (though if I did do it, I might push for a semi-weekly "World Herald Fiction" column which would have submissions vetted by staff for potential prizes (i.e., 1 week HC for each semi-weekly winning submission).

Maybe someone out here is doing a podcast....or maybe Bytro should host an occasionalonal podcast and the News section can promote that once in a while.

Really, the ideas are endless. I'm just wondering how I never really considered it before now. And why hasn't Bytro?

[Just a note, I'm re-reposting this as a new thread in the suggestions area. If anyone wants to respond to some of this, do so, there.]

I think you experienced folks likely slammed the new folks into the dirt within a few days whenever they did try it, so most people came to the realization that if they didn't have a nearly open schedule to watch their game like a hawk that the PL match wasn't for them. i know I don't have the time necessary to consider it.

Hm....one thing I've noticed is that most of the lead players have HC. They don't have to sit and babysit the match, either. Any newer players with HC already have that built-in advantage for queues, auto-fire, etc.

I'm not one of those with HC. I do kinda have to babysit the match. In fact, the only time I ever really go down (usually) is when I don't do that. A couple matches ago, I literally sent a huge invasion force to the coast of UK then went to bed and then to town the next day. That morning, I forgot to tell them to land and move forward, so they got pummelled at sea and I didn't even think about them until I was headed to dinner at a restaurant and realized I hadn't checked in. I was supposed to make the landings that morning (they were launched the night before). But I forgot about it all day. (This is just an example of why people with ADHD (like me) suffer so much in everyday life.)

In the current match, I got very sick in the first few days and couldn't even think about defending myself when one of those "new" players invaded and tore through my open lands after the peace period ended. By the time I was at least well enough to check in on it, I saw what he had done and I had to try to force myself to fight back. I soon beat him back, but I'd already lost too much to be a viable player in this match. Since then, I've gotten better and I've made good headway, but that mostly because of the good graces of some of my neighbors.
