PL June events

With the lifting of the peace period flag, smoke columns went up all across the map... too many inactives to mention are being invaded, and a few early inter-player conflicts started.

In the center of the map, a new alliance called YouDeadNow was created, consisting of Kansas, Nebraska, Minnesota and West Ontario. They immediatly grabbed Wyoming, one of the White Walkers, by the throat, who already saw need to move his capital away from the front. A few provinces fell, though there are no conclusive results yet. Meanwhile, the defender created a corridor through Montana to his fellow White Walker in Sakatchewan, hoping to reinforce his front with fresh allied troops. Meanwhile, the White Walkers recruited their fourth member and now consist of

NW.Territories, East Montana, Saskatchewan and Wyoming. The coalition leader launched a seaborne invasion on Alaska, taking a city and a province there. An Alaskan spokesman promised stiff resistance for the remainder of his country.

On the East coast, the Sauron coalition filled up to four members: Alabama, Maine, North Carolina, and Pennsylvania. Virginia, wrongfooted while trying to stabilize her Western part, was invaded by Pennsylvania and seems to be having a hard time, losing well over a handful of provinces including two cities already. There are several more unaligned players in the region, and the reporter saw several government officials over there rushing around, in apparent chaos, nervously scratching their skulls.

Elsewhere on the map, there's neither player conflict nor coalition creation. Over half the players are still unaligned, so we certainly expect to see more coalitions popping up, especially in the West and the South.

As your reporter predicted yesterday, more coalitions are being formed. In the South, Southern Territories, duh, consists of four members: E.Texas, Venezuela, E.Mexico, and Central America. They immediatly jumped to third place in coalition rankings, behind Sauron and YDN.

Another new coalition of three members, United Defenders, sprung up on the Eastern US-Canadian border, consisting of E.Ontario, Indiana, and South Quebec. They are at fifth place of the table, but may jump quickly if they recruit a fourth member.

White Walkers lost almost the entire core of Wyoming to YDN, though resistance fighters are reported to continue the struggle for their homeland. Bitter fighting was seen today as the other White Walkers tried to deny YDN a path to the North.

In Alaska, money is put where mouthes are. Though a direct frontline through Yukon was opened, NW Territories seems to be bogged down in heavy fighting against prepared positions.

First place in the graveyard is for Virgina, Pennsylvania completed its conquest today. Sauron is steadily eating inactives otherwise, apparently with some expertise.

The Wyoming Perspective

Who would have thought with AI's on all fronts in abundance that 2 major powers would come knocking on my door as the peace period lifted. Nebraska and Kansas did a masterful job keeping me at the negotiating table with an informal NAP (Kansas) and a major NAP (Nebraska) under consideration but unsigned. Simultaneously negotiations were underway between my coalition leader and theirs for a bipartisan NAP between coalitions. The attack with smokey diplomatic subterfuge was masterfully done. Hats off to you gentlemen.

Driving north into Western Montana was the primary plan to create a linkup with my Canadian brothers & sisters in arm, with a smaller invasion into metal rich Colorado to supplement meager metal deposits in my homeland. Luckily a bladder call (yes they even happen to heads of state) alerted me to advances on my eastern border, though no state of war existed yet. Stubborn belief in the diplomatic process minimized the response to the perceived threat, but some forces were shifted out of the front to protect the north/south line. The rest, as you have read above is history, the line shift slowed their advance, the link up occurred, and now a guerrilla war is waged from the mountains in NW Wyoming and SE Western Montana by my remaining troops.

Meanwhile the Eye of Sauron grows ever stronger in the East.

Another exciting day at the Player's League!

In the East, Sauron's Alabama invaded unaligned South Carolina. Though he took a few provinces, the attacker's losses are higher than he probably expected, doubling those of the defender. Other Sauron members continue eating neutrals though, and the coalition is on the top of the leader board.

Closeby, Florida and Cuba, both unaligned, are fighting a bitter war with a high death toll. Florida seems to be on the losing end: though he still controls four of his cities, most of the countryside is in Cuban hands.

Second on the board are the Southern Territories, also quietly expanding on neutrals.

In the Northwest, the situation is getting foggier by the day. White Walker's NW. Territories took the Aslaskan capital, but was faced with a surprise attack on his core by a member of a new coalition, the Vikings, consisting of E.British Columbia, Oregon, and Arizona. The Vikings took two core provinces and a city off NW's hands. It is unknown if enough troops are available to NW to stop a further advance.

The main war between WW and YDN still rages on. Though there was a pitched battle for most of the day near the former Wyoming-Montana border, YDN took some provinces of Montana in the last few hours and may have forced a breakthrough, but it is still too early to tell for sure.

Another WW-YDN front was opened with the demise of neutral Manitoba, and a front being established between Saskatchewan and W.Ontario. In a much more spacious region than further South, a mobile battle developed which favored the one first, then the other next. Rumors say that Ontarian troops crossed the Sask border, but those cannot be confirmed. More conflict here is expected to occur soon.

The player's League world is in full turmoil, as more conflicts are springing up across the map and old ones are coming to a crisis!

In the Northwestern war, two White Walkers cracked today under continued pressure from YDN, steamrolling over their cores. Isolated groups are offering resistance here and there, but both Montana and Saskatchewan will probably not survive the very near future.

The remaining White Walker in NW Territories managed to stop the British Columbian invasion, while continuing operations in Alaska and taking most key objectives. Alaska is also not expected to survive much longer.

On the East coast, Sauron took a shot at taking out the state that had been in their middle from the start, and invaded South Carolina. They were met by heavy artillery barrages from prepared positions, and took svere casualties. At the same time, South Carolina managed to lauch a counter-offensive into Sauron's North Carolina, taking several core provinces and cities, and causing massive industrial damage. Nonetheless, even though it managed to establish a last-minute coalition with Cuba, the odds were overwhelming and S.Carolina had to yield core ground on the other end of the state. It's position is dire. Cuban forces on the mainland are also under pressure and yieling ground to Sauron's Arkansas, while unable to eliminate Florida pockets. Unknown diplomatic opeartions are also taking place here, as S.Carolina signed peace agreements with some of their invaders under undisclosed terms.

Another Sauron war was waged further North, where they clashed with United Defender's Eastern Ontario. Battles raged all day, with both sides taking serious losses and many provinces changing hands; there seems to be a sligght advantage for Pennsylvania on this front.

In the centre, United Defender's Indiana picked a fight with unaligned Iowa as they were both invading neutral Illinois. Though Iowa is takin bigger losses, the situation is still unclear.

All of these conflicts seem to be advantageous to the Southern Territories. They still didn't pick a fight with anyone, and are quietly expanding against neutral opponents.

It was a day of consolidation in the Player's League today.

In the Northwest, remnants of the three fallen White Walkers are being chased by YDN. None of them controls more than a single province, and a path is being cleared through neutral lands towards the last Walker in NW.Territories, to assist the Vikings coming in from the Pacific coast.

Even though Alaskan forces are still resisting, a small estate (well, by Alaskan standards) was granted by the NW.Territories to the refugee Wyoming leader, who is reportedly sitting in his library all day, staring at walls covered by maps, and constanly mumbling "I will kill them all!" under his breath.

In the centre, YDN also jumped on unaligned Iowa, just after it managed to secure a peace deal with Indiana. It was all over in about ten hours; all that remains now is one besieged city and one province away from his core.

In Eastern Canada, the war between United Defenders and Sauron members ended as it begun - in a cloud of smoke and mirrors. Both sides seem to be at peace again without clear results for any side. Noone knows if this is just an armistice or a full peace.

On the Atlantic coast, a pinball game of war and peace went on between several Sauron members and South Carolina. At the end of the day, South Carolina ended up owning all of his core again, but granting all North Carolinian lands back to the original owner. A complex diplomatic deal is rumored to be the cause of these complicated manoevers, but no public statement was made. Surprisingly, no allied Cuban forces were involved in any of this; they are still struggling to contain Floridan resistance which has not been pacified by far.

Southern forces remain out of any player conflict, and are continuing endeavors against neutral countries. However, viable targets are running out all over the map, and in several instances neutrals were jumped from several sides, by rival coalitions competing for scarce land. The last of these poor neutral countries will soon be gone, and we can only speculate what it will mean to the actions of the moloch powers that will remain.

Finally, the Southern alliance showed colors: Texas attacked Sauron's Alabama. The response was quick and decisive. Texan forces were routed, and Alabaman troops are on the outskirt of the Texas capital as we speak. Bot sides were aided by their allies, so even though the initial results are tentative, this conflict is not expected to end any time soon.

Elsewhere in the East, there were little notable events, except Floridan resistance finaaly giving way and being completely controlled by Cuba now.

The YDN advance against the remaining White Walker in NorthWest Territories was halted at the frontier of his core. Bitter stalemate fighting followed, as NW held out tight and death tolls sky rocketed on both sides. Viking share in this war has diminished, as British Colombia apparently accepts losing half its core to NW, and not much fighting has gone on there since that happened a few days ago. This may have to do with the Saskatchewan army, left without a home, ravaging the area like a tornado, with all those around unable to stop it.

The Alaskan war has completely stabilized. Though they are stil at war with NW, no provinces have changed hands for a while now, and not much fighting is reported either.

Neutrals being devoured from several sides resulted in a border skirmish between Arizona and Kansas, but it is not expected that this conflict will last long.

YDN gobbled up a long streak of neutrals over the last few days, and is now first on the leader board at 592. Sauron and Southern are tied for second place around 465, though the latest Sauron conquests haven't been factored into the equasion yet. Vikings are firmly in fourth place at 390, followed by United Defenders at 288, Swordmen at 149, and White Walkers at 105.

Two wars dominated the news today.

In the old war of the Northwest, the defenses of the last remaining White Walker finally cracked, as YDN forces are flooding his lands. The sheer size and difficult terrain of the area ensures that mopping-up operations will be continuing for days, but the Walkers cannot hope to muster up a serious military defense anymore.

In Texas, the Southern Territories have a hard time keeping the Sauron forces at bay. Even though no further dramatic territorial losses occurred today, they seem to be on the wrong side of the losses tables, and reserves are being depleted. Sauron forces still hold the initiative here in a war that remains highly mobile.

Elsewhere on the map, states are apparently taking a break between battles. The last remaining neutrals are being digested, troops are getting some R&R, supplies are being stockpiled, and logistics centres are set up for the battles that are to come, sooner rather than later.

Not much to report today, really.

Sauron advanced further in the South, controls most of Texas' core now, and is approaching the Mexican border.

In the North, an equally slow advance brings YDN in the direction of Alaska. Not much fighting is being reported as the troops cover the many miles of this inhospitable land.

The Wyoming estate in Alaska was already vacated, when Alaskan troops suddenly showed up on the driveway. The inhabitants had long gone, and the soldiers had little else to do than stare in astonishment at the library. Curtains drawn, walls covered with maps with arrows drawn on them, and in the centre, a small panel with nothing on it but a red button.

When engineers investigated, they discovered that it wasn't connected to anything.

Since your reporter was off reporting Groundhog Day (which won't be covered here), he wasn't available to report on the important stuff. He apologizes!

While he was away, all hell broke loose in West America as Viking forces from Arizona and Oregon invaded the YDN lands in the centre. After an initial spark in the Colorado region, the conflict has now spread to front of over a 1,500 miles, reaching all the way to British Colombia. Viking have taken a considerable amount of land, especially in Wyoming and Colorado, but YDN seems to have managed to stabilize the front after the initial sneak attack. Heavy casualties are reported on both sides, and there was no decisive result for either side.

The Southern Territories are still giving away ground in the South, as the Alabaman-Mainian forces have taken Mexico and are preparing to push into Central America. In a series of related events, South Carolina and Cuban forces cleared Southern posessions in the Carribean, before landing in Brasil, held by Venezuela. The fate of the Southerners seems to be in the balance!

Far North, the White Walkers still haven't gone completely extinct. Even though they don't hold any continental ground anymore, the have withdrawn to sereval Pacific island, and are scheming for a return to the mainland someday.

Doing that resulted in some losses though, as the Southern navy inflicted losses on the crossing troops. In venezuela, the Swordsmen beachhead seems to be solid now, and Venezuela units are fighting bitter defensive battles for their home towns.

In the West, YDN has been working hard to regain the area lost in the initial attack from Viking forces. On the Eastern side of the front line, YDN is pushing the invaders out and back across the initial frontier, with the losses tables also in their favor. Further North, Nebraskan forces have gone in for the kill against Washington, capturing three core cities. The Viking front seems to be crumbling, but there is still a lot of ground available for a defense in depth.

On the Eastern side of the continent, all is quiet and no gunshot is heard. Is this a lasting peace, or merely the silence before the storm?

Day 15 political map.

All over the PL board, current wars are drawing to a close.

In the South, Venezuela is down to a few provinces without any cities. Not all its land went to the Swordmen, as Alabama troops managed to cross the Panama channel and took some valuable land and cities on the other side as well.

In the West, YDN is in full pursuit of the fleeing Viking armies, reaching the Pacific coat in several places. Losses are skyrocketing on the Viking side as they are unable to stop the merciless exploit.

In the North, a small incursion from the Aquatic White Walker was quickly crushed by vigilant Ontario security forces. A ranger being interviewed on local television was filmed by his campfire in the evening, and seen shrugging, commenting: "All in a days work".

Diplomatic circles were in shock today, as Sauron announced activating a 48-hour cancellation clause of the NAP that had apparently existed between them and YDN. "We had always suspected there was some kind of treaty in place between these superpowers," a Federal spokesman said, "but these things are usually left in the dark between states. Now that it is officially cancelled, there can be no other explanation than an imminent war. We urge parties to restrain themselves so consequences for the civilian population may be minimalized! "

On the battlefields, there was not much action. Several cleansing operations are coming to a close, as remnants of White Walkers, Vikings, and Southern Territories are being mopped up; but no conflict was reported anywhere between any of the four remaining power blocks.

As was expected earlier, the Sauron agressor launched its major attack on YDN yesterday. The main attack was aimed at Missouri, and meant to thrust unto YDN's Kansas and Nebraska cores. After initial succes, and their commander-in-chief already crying "victory", the invader was stopped near the Kansas border. Heavy fighting followed, with casualties running into the hundreds of thousands within hours, and still rising. Despite Sauron's claims, they seem to be trailing in the casualties tables.

A secondary attack was launched in NW. Mexico by Sauron's Maine forces. Supported by a huge airforce, YDN's rearguard units were quickly neutralized, but the attack was heavily delayed by difficult terrain. After a full day, their troops have still barely reached the US border; on the other hand, both terrain and targets are more attractive from here on.

The remaining two alliances have not yet officially responded to the developing situation. NAP´s are rumored to be in place, but no public details are available. Will they stand on the sideline, or will they jump in on either side?
