Players League Map Poll

This month we would like to hear from you which map you would want to use for July

While not neccessary, include comments or explanations why you think the map would be best or of interest to you. Assume that we have approx 20 -25 players, but you may include and size map

The results are not binding.

I'd suggest the smallest map, which also has even-balanced countries, to accomodate the amount of sign-ups... so that would mean the 22p map if it fits, and go to 50p N.American when it don't. Pacific may also be an option, though the timeframe would turn it into two separate games and being on the lightly populated side is a huge advantage.

When the enemy is driven back, we have failed. When he is cut off, encircled and dispersed, we have succeeded.

I like the Pacific map...and being on the lightly populated side isn't an advantage, necessarily. If I get started in South China, it doesn't matter how many opponents stay active in Asia. That's MY game, almost every time (barring extremely heavy gold usage by Alberta in my last Pacific match). Oh, and crossing the Alaskan Strait in well-under 30 days from either side is totally doable by many members of the PL. I could see that happening in a PL match, easily.
It seemed like such a waste to destroy an entire battle station just to eliminate one man. But Charlie knew that it was the only way to ensure the absolute and total destruction of Quasi-duck, once and for all.

Hi, in the German League we discuss at the moment a new mode for the next season. Inspired by the last Team-Fight Event we think about to go away from a single player league to a team league with random players each month.

We think about to use the event map as a base for the league. Each month all players will be part of a team. The winning team get the double of the victory points after day 30. No diplomatic and no trade between the players will be allowed. Resources can only be trade via market. It is not allowed to transfer units between the players.

At the start we will have a short peace period for the AI and a little bit longer for human players. This will allow all players to prepare for battle and to expand the game time. (otherwise i think the game is over after two weeks)

We hope that we get in this way more active players in the league. I think it can be funny if we get 20 vs 20 players for the matches.

(team map bevor game starts)

@Xarus I can still contact a player when sending a email so nice try there

this sounds very interesting but we dont get enough players to do such a large map we usually on have 20 - 25 players

the last time we did a larger map most were not happy as they were fighting AI

I think @Xarus is onto something here, though. Having a more interesting set of rules and limitations that don't hinder the sport of it might make the PL more inviting.

I like these ideas and I think the English server could try something like this. However, though I'm not sure about randomizing the teams each month (maybe it'd make more sense every three months?), I think this whole thing could be implemented quite well. It's certainly worth a try.

Aside from keeping the same teams for three months...and by extension, making that the season -- and along these lines -- I'd change one principle aspect which is the 20 v 20 teams. Another player once suggested making these team matches. Perhaps we can try it, but with more...smaller...teams. Though the teams could -- and probably should -- still be randomized for fairness, having a normal team game in terms of player counts would be easier for the staff to implement as well as keeping more incentives for individuals to stay in it to win it. Having a large two-team game (i.e., 20 v 20) would allow some players to try it but then not feel compelled to stick it out if things don't necessarily go their way early on. That would unbalance a match too quickly.

Also, having smaller teams means more teams which I would surmise that bytro and the staff led by @Dr. Leipreachán would then be willing to increase the incentives for the winning team (again, in a three month season). If the prizes are lucrative enough, that alone would entice more players. But having the season shortened by half to only three months might make the PL seem a little less daunting to some players who might want to try it out but not feel like they have to stick it out for half a year. For that reason alone, I think the summer might become the largest season for younger people without having to deal with school-based issues.

@Diabolical: Maybe you remember my "Clash of Alliances". But this team fights ware very hard to setup. Sometimes the team lost a player or two or three teams try to go always on one other team on all maps...

I had a lot of trouble with this setup. I think it's more interested for new players to enter a open team fight then to try to find a team for half a year. The fluctuation of players is very high, we have a number of players that plays each month and some player they enter the league if they have time, and a big part of players check the games only once or twice.

But if you guys will try to play a team fight like i suggest, feel free to enter the new German Liga in August 2018. Yes we start in August after my vacation and will only running 4 month. With Google translator you will be able to communicate with the other players, and most of them speak English as well.

Perhaps. But having a shorter season (3 months) should mitigate the fluctuation to some extent. As for ganging up....perhaps a modification of the rules could fix this:

RULE: You cannot stay at war with another specific team for more than 4 days. You must go to war with another team for 4 days before you can go back to being at war with the other team.

I know that sounds complicated, but some variant along those lines might work. Get creative, make some rules!

BTW: I don't speak German, but I do sing some songs in German. Unfortunately, the text of those songs is all romance era love songs, so I'm not sure it'd be a good idea for me to try to communicate in the "German Liga". Or maybe I SHOULD try it....

Ich schau' dich an und Wehmut

Xarus, I've been toying with a similar idea when I was modding the English PL, I think it has great potential. Both the stagnation of the end game we had when coalitions were fixed, as the general atmosphere of backstabbing when they were open, can be prevented.

With monthly reshuffling of the teams it would still be possible to pick individual winners at season end. Maybe do away with VP altogether, and just give one point to everyone on the winning team?

As Doc said, don't pick too big a map though, most PL players don't like fighting AI. 20-20 on a 100p map sounds WAY too underpopulated.

Our Idea at the moment is, to give all payers at the end of day 30 his own victory points, and the winning team gets this double. In this way, the best player will reach the top of the ranking soon.

The best part of the team fight league is, that we, the supporter, has less work to do.

OK, so I switched to the German server to try to find information about German Liga. I tried to access the Forum from the German server and it only brought me back to the English forums. Aren't there other language forums? And how do I find them? How do I find out more about German Liga?

I will post the translated new rules & conditions form the German League, in this international part of this forum at the begin of week 30. So all players have enough time to read and accept the rules. I normally open the map with "starts when full" condition one or two day before start, in these way players can relaxed find the way into the league.

On the other side I will make advert for the international PL in the German forum, if this league will stay in the old way with single players. Maybe we get in this way two good working unique leagues. ;)

the smallest possible map (depending on a number of participants) please ;)

@Xarus my friend few month ago i joined one of your rounds and the mods banned me from the german servers bcs i had an argument with one of the players, and the mod was his friend, and when i talked to the mod and told him it was not just to ban me from the round, he banned all my cow account and if the English mods didnt intervene that German lunatic mod could have banned me for good from all COW. if u want to play with us, i suggest you come to the english server and setup the game here.

@Mark, you talking about old stories... and if I remember right, you started this mess with your insulting words!

The German supporter was reprimanded for this things, so don't talk about a lame duck.

If I made a "team fight league" I will make it in German, because it is my mother language and in this way much easier for me to moderate. We have a good working support team behind the "German Liga", so I think it's better to leave this games on the German server.

if team fight PL make a test run, im in. And only 100er map, because 20v20 on 50er is a lotto for few direct AI neighbours, every one else would have little disadvantage.

you will have an opportunity to sign up for the August match when i post the sign up on july 20th

at that time we wont know what map we will be using, that is determined by how many sign up

but i doubt we will be using the 100 player

I know I am late but I think others are also...you may have more players...
