Call of War Glossary

Somewhat new and confused about the meaning of all these terms being thrown around? You’ve come to the right place! I will try to define as many terms as possible here. Any contributions are welcome and appreciated, hopefully this can grow to include everything someone may want to know.

Backstabber- A person who betrays their allies, (Usually after an exchange of Share map/RoW through diplomacy or a coalition.) often executed with placing unit in one of the victim's empty cities, and then declaring war, resulting the fall of the city to the backstabber, (this method usually done in multiple province or cities simultaneously) or by ambushing vulnerable armies of the victim (Often done in tandem with placing units in cities and done against multiple armies.)

BB- Battleships.

Blitzkrieg/Blitz (Map)- Also a small historical 10 player map, not to be confused with the in-game tactic.

Blitzkrieg/Blitz (Tactic)- Tactic which involves a rapid invasion of an enemy, usually including many fast units, melee and air combat. Designed to quickly end a war in a short time.

COW- Call of War.

CV, sometimes CVV- Aircraft Carriers. Sometimes AC may be used incorrectly in their place.

FP- Frontline Pioneers, they play-test versions of the game that are still in development and hunt for bugs.

FT- Flame Tanks.

Skip Upgrading- Tactic where upgrades are coordinated in such a way that when a unit completes upgrading to a lower level, the next upgrade is already researched. AC- Along with Armored Cars, it is also used for Aircraft Carriers. I think A/C is for Cars and AC for Carriers? There may be no difference, though.
It's actually CV for carriers, the term AC is inaccurate.

Meat shield - deriving from shoot n scoot, except there's no need to run as there would be a shielding force in front of the artillery to block any incoming attacks. Only works in sufficient numbers. (The basic idea)

FP - Frontline Pioneers, they playtest versions of the game that are still in development and hunt bugs

Blitz/Blitzkrieg - Some players may not know it (I'd be surprised), but it is a military campaign aimed to be ended as swiftly as possibly

Mil - Militia (sometimes)

Atts/AB/Dive Bombers - Attack Bombers

RA - Rocket Artillery

Can't think of any more, but there prolly are. Good job tho Carking :)

or by ambush vulnerable victim's army (again this method are often systematically prepared and executed in multiple victim's army)

Nope, only CV, which is the NATO (as are the other ships besides subs)

To be honest, I think it'd be useful to include commonly mistaken ones - as long as they're labelled with, for example:

'Aircraft Carriers are commonly shortened to ACs. However, this is a mistake - they should be labelled as CVs. Just be warned, sometimes you may be confused, as someone will mislabel these units. If you come across this, gently and kindly correct them!'

Have a blessed day <3

thanks now I know some of them I didn't know

I feel like it's omitted how Blitzkrieg is a special tactic compared to another mobile tactic, though also I feel like this point is not widely known among CoW players.

And the word “ Meat Shield ” does exist.

But might not be nested in the word “ screen ” ?

I knew I missed something! I suddenly remembered: RM - Rare Materials, and MP - Manpower

:D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

You defined 'SPAA' as 'Self-Propelled Rocket Artillery'. You might want to correct that.

I have seen 'food' and 'grain' used interchangeably, but I'm not sure if this is common enough to be worth noting.

food and grain, metal and steel I see a lot, mostly by myself ||

I think there is also a term for putting units on the border with another country, or parking them near a city to put pressure on them.

Depends why you're doing it. If it's a show of force to get the other nation to do what you want rather than risk a war they're going to lose, it'd go under gunboat diplomacy.

Is there some term that is commonly used for when players do that? Hell we could always create a meaning, use it, have it stick in the future and become part of the games vocabulary, lasting even after we are gone!

I should also add that FFA- Free for all.

You're forgetting one of Zhukov's and your own favourites:

The Union.

If people can't figure what "the Union" is, then why the hell are they playing a WW2-based game

Taken care of.

Can I suggest putting them in alphabetical order? That would make it much easier for people to look up a specific term.

Well I was trying to do that by dividing them into units, maps, buildings and stuff but that may work. ChatGPT will make this easy anyway!
