Nuclear Bombers and Nuclear Rockets are the single most powerful unit in the game. Dealing huge damage to stacks, buildings and ships, they will blow away most anything. While hard to manufacture, cost a fortune and are only one use; they can turn the tide of battle in your favor or doom within seconds.
BE WARNED: Nuclear Rockets and missiles destroy any troops in their path. That includes the target, your troops and your allies troops. Make sure to stay clear of the blast radius. (50km)
Build Requirements
The Nuclear Rocket and the Nuclear Bomber both require the same basic build requirements. Both cost 10,000 rare each, and both cost $30,000 to produce.
- Level 1 Industrial Complex
- Level 3 Airport
- Nuclear Reactor
Build Costs and Range|
| Manpower | Metal | Rare | Money | RANGE | |
Nuclear Bomber | 250 | 500 | 10,000 | 30,000 | 670-1000km | |
Nuclear Missile | - | 1500 | 10,000 | 30,000 | 800km |
Research
The research trains for the nuclear bomber and nuclear missile are slightly different. Both require the nuclear reactor and nuclear bomb research. But then it splits.
Nuclear Bomber - If done correctly, research for a nuclear bomber can be done by day 28.
- Level 3 Nuclear Reactor Research
- Level 3 Strategic Bomber Research
- Level 1 Nuclear Bomb Research
- Level 1 Nuclear Bomber
Continued research for the nuclear bomber is important. Level 1 nuclear bombers, while powerful, are not powerful enough to take out massive stacks. These numbers are only estimates, it depends on what type of units are in the stack, home core defense bonus, etc.
- Level 1- 15 Units
- Level 2- 30 Units
- Level 3- <60 units
Nuclear Rocket - The earliest you can research Nuclear Rockets is day 40.- Level 4 Nuclear Reactor Research
- Level 4 Rocket
- Level 3 Nuclear Bomb
- Nuclear Rocket Research
Attacking with a Nuclear Bomber
Nuclear bombers have pro's and cons. While using an airport system, you can use nuclear bombers to bring immense power to a trouble spot: but you cannot group fighters with the planes to protect it, and the bomber can be shot down. But there are many ways to use the bomber while making sure it reaches the target safely.
- Surprise Attack- Using these to start a war is one of the best ways to not get shot down.
- Attack the defending planes first- Clear out some of the defenders before you strike. A nuclear bomber will get through some flak, but not a lot.
- Attack a nearby province or unit- The nuclear bomber has a wide area in which damage is dealt, a 50 km radius. If you can hit a province or unit that is right beside the desired target, you can destroy both targets without having to deal with the AA fire from the larger units.
Defending Against a Nuclear Bomber Due to the nature of a nuclear bomber, being unable to be escorted by fighters and having only 30 HP, it can be shot down easily when attacking directly.
- Fighters- Using 5-7 fighters, you can usually take down 1 nuclear bomber in 1 shot. Also, you can patrol these over a stack, unit, or city you wish to protect.
- Anti-Air- These units are a must if any of your enemies have aircraft. You would need 5-7 of Anti-aircraft, leveled up, to defeat one nuclear bomber without it being able to detonate. For maximum AA fire, try using 5 anti-air units and 5 SP Anti-air in one stack.
- Keep out of Range- While simple, this is the only sure way not to get hit with a nuclear bomber.
Attacking with a Nuclear Missile- Once launched, a nuclear rocket is unstoppable. Regardless of AA fire, the missile will reach its target. This weapon really has no downfalls, other than transportation by airplane convoy.
- Just launch!- Once you have selected a target, launch the missile. Once you launch, you cannot recall it, so make sure of your target beforehand.
- Make sure your Target Can't move- Consider sending some units to attack the target you wish to attack, so they cannot escape from the blast.
Defending against a Nuclear Missile Because of the nature of the nuclear Rocket, there is only two strategies that work.
- RUN! - Once a nuclear missile is fired, you cannot stop it. The only strategy is to get out of the way ASAP. Using forced march is more than justified in this occasion. Fortifications will not protect you, rockets ignore fortifications.
On further consideration, from staff and other members, being able to outrun a nuclear rocket is highly unlikely. You would practically need every speed enhancing bonus there is in the game. But, why not try?- Destroy it on the ground- The only other method is to destroy it on the ground. Because of it's low health, attacking planes or ground forces will have no trouble getting rid of a nuclear missile.
