When you click new game and flip down, you would probably see the 1 to 3 available rounds then for historic world war filled to well over 20 players. This can result in frustrating due to not being able to pick the country you wanted to pick, as well as cause you to waste your time waiting hours on end for a new round to be created. To remedy this, simply wait until the number of available rounds drop down to 2 or 1, (having more than 2 available rounds can cause you to get locked out of games due to joining rounds too fast). Then, wait until these rounds fill up to 29/30 and join both. Be sure to not choose a country as this may impact your stats. The game now would think that all 3 rounds generated have been fully filled and generate 3 new rounds. When you see that a new round has generated, simply wait 1 to 3 seconds and click join. Most of the popular choices such as Germany, USA, and the Soviet Union should be available. (Some would be already filled by terminally online players who spend their entire day camping COW for available rounds or people using the same strategy.)

No. Both involve sitting around on the games page until the specific requirements you're looking for are fulfilled.
Not to say that this post is bad advice, but my own would be simply to be more flexible in which country you want to play. It can be quite satisfying to take a continent with one of the more underpowered countries, and given the inactivity rates in HWW it's not actually as hard as one might think it is.
Ye, I agree with the fun of playing with a underpowered country. Currently in a round as Tibet and am winning that one. Being flexible with country choices is of course better, as it would lessen inactivity by a bit, but sometimes I would want to go for a specific country, such as France or USA, which would be chosen fairly quickly by other players.

Next All Nations All In I'm going to try for a solo victory as Free City of Danzig. I know exactly how it will end (ignominious defeat) but it'd be fun to try.

Also you need to meet this person, they literally only play Danzig! They’ve almost won before as well!

I've played CoN exactly twice; first game ever, and months later when I wanted to get the hang of CoW without having to deal with a full world map of players.
The Luxembourg victory is indeed doable, but do we know that the ones that have been done were by people who weren't paying inordinate amounts of cash to do it?
We will see!
