Nice guide. Iβm guessing you are talking about nationalist China in Historic World war and not the 100p game.
FORUM GANG Second Lieutenant
CALL OF WAR TECHNICIAN THIRD GRADE
This is a bit of a breakaway from my traditional guide formula, for two reasons: firstly, Nat. China is HUGE. They are easily the largest country I've made a guide for, to date. The second reason is because it isn't inherently weak. Most of my guides are for countries that possess very little industry, weak military, few points, etc. Nationalist China is by no means an easy country to get started as!
You begin with piss-poor food production, a pittance of oil, a completely occupied coastline (Japan), one of the most aggressive neighbors you can have in Call of War (again, Japan), and several smaller countries surrounding you, all of which with near-capable armies that, when unified, can take you on. What do you have? 23 level 3 militia units. Now that might sound like a lot - and it kind of is - but they aren't going to just win the day for you. Let's get right into it!
1. IMMEDIATELY, WITHOUT FAIL, UPGRADE ALL OIL AND FOOD INFRASTRUCTURE. I would not capitalize this whole sentence if it were not important! Your number one priority for right now is to get the infra in place, and get it to as high of a level as you can afford, or YOU ARE GOING TO STARVE.
2. Deactivate any barracks that aren't with industrial complexes. China was, and still is, one of if not the most populous countries in the world at the time, and has more than enough manpower. You do not need unnecessary barracks.
3. Completely ignore Communist China. They have virtually no resources, and offer too few points to be of any strategic value. It's too much work, too little reward.
4. Either make peace with Japan, or prepare for war. I almost always find myself doing the latter, and you can pull it off if you move fast! Mobilize as many anti tank and anti air guns as you can afford. You cannot win an offensive war with Japan, not without a navy, but you can win a defensive one, and to do that, you'll need some bigger guns. Research better artillery and defensive implements for now: hold off on tanks.
5. For oil, you you essentially have two options: option A, in the event of a Sino-Japanese war, is to take back your coast. Now, you should get around to this sooner or later, but for now, I'd steer clear of Japan, or strike some deals. Use option A as a manner of last resort. Option B is to invade Xingjiang, which also has a nice bit of oil, and is a lot less fortified. You'll also obtain some steel, more goods, a pittance of food, etc.
6. If you can, mop up Mongolia for some easy points and food.
7. Assuming you took option B earlier, remember to keep your infra up. Get all food and oil provinces to level 3 infrastructure ASAP. At level 3 infra? Upgrade industrial complexes. Don't have any? Save up and build one. You need to maximize the output of these provinces for the sake of your survival.
8. Remember to keep investing in better infantry research, and once you have oil, do the same for tanks. Don't worry about a navy unless you're planning to take back your coast... Which, to be honest, even then it's iffy.
9. If Tibet still exists, yeet 'em for food and steel.
10. Remember to use your infrastructure. you have a MASSIVE industrial base, something that could even rival the Soviet Union with enough time, and that's your biggest asset. Never neglect it! When in doubt, amass an army of defensive guns!

Thanks for the pointers. Coincidentally, I'm about to win a game with India (in coalition with Japan and Canada) in the 39 historical map. Lots of manpower with India, but I'd had issues with both food and oil ...
Yes, I wish you could sell manpower.gusv wrote:

LOL ... That thought crossed my mind too ... Or trading it .... But I guess that CoW did not like the idea of either mercenaries, or fighting slaves.Killer8282 wrote:

Well, in ww2, Germany did kinda force some Romanians and Hungarians and so on to fight Soviet, so...
Good advice. I got a coalition win as Nat. China the only time played that map, but I was able to ally with Japan.
I am playing a match where nationalist China is about to win.
Its good if u can win from india
but even if india is somewhat a moderate player he can defeat china easily so be alllies with india usually helps u take over most neighbouring countries while japan is too useful
just attk tibet and also defeat all those neighbours to make sure u are the best in the region
You forgot the TWO big steamrollers of Asia: India and Russia.
Both of them will steamroll your guns and everything within 2 pinch zoom-out range.
Except that 99% of Russia's steamrolling power is in Europe. Asia is pretty exposed.blue44elephant wrote:

And you can outproduce India by about 5 industrial complexes, I do believe.
But India starts with superior manpower and communist china will also want to take part in the oncoming onslaught and don't forget that certain countries have resources which allow them to set up production centers outside of cities and that's a luxury. I have 13 production centers outside of cities in one of my games and it wasn't that hard to steamroll Asia. I don't know how to attach pictures or I could have shown you.
In 100p game, boost up all industry to highest level and build them in case some providence has none and upgrade to max because you have very low productivity of resources and Research your unit because they are extremely weak and make allies as quick as possible because you can be defeated quickly
Now, Nat China is much better. They have decent Metals, and abundant of food and oil, top 5 of the global economy. (950 an hour for food, 640 an hour for metals, 1000 an hour for oil.) With much food and oil, going air force might sound good. However, Japan already has the upperhand, so going full Infantry and militias plus artillery is better.
If you feel like you have enough metals, go for light tanks and armored cars. Medium and Heavy armored tanks arent really good in Pan Asian, so massing anti tank guns could be good if you are meeting enemies with heavy tanks. Of course, navy isnt already an option as you start with no coastal cities; apart from Macao.
However your huge economy is compensated with SMALL ARMY(32) . they can easily get deleted by Japanese army. However, if you play defense, Japan will have some trouble cracking you. So while you can, spam Militias if Japan aint your friend.
I tried it, lost to Japan plus Xinjiang and the US (attacked me from the Philippines) after 3 days of war. The front is simply too big to hold and you canβt lose ground but Japan can (colonies are non core). So he can just full send and guard a few positions with air power and if itβs a day 1 war youβre gonna suffer. Firepower concentration only works in small fronts, in larger fronts you would have to have air superiority (which you donβt) if you want to concentrate your firepower. Really difficult early game (as with the USSR). If China is still open in the HWW map I recommend you choose Brazil, Italy or Mexico instead.DAMNATOR.EXE wrote:

AT guns arenβt much good in direct combat, because they suffer heavy damage from armored units (apart from TD), and different from MI (with a similar problem), they are slow, which means they canβt run away from the fast armored units. I never upgrade them if I start with them, and never ever use them in combat, I just use them as coastal guards (theyβre stealth units) or as city garrisons (high damage even at level 1) to prevent revolts, not enemy armies. The latter is my main use for them.DAMNATOR.EXE wrote:

If you really want to play China, here is my suggestion. On day 1 the Japanese are superior in all aspects, so quit dreaming about fighting inferior armies. You have militia, and use them to capture unguarded territory from Japan, if you are lucky the Japanese wonβt spot you with his air force, if he did you are probably screwed. Try to make some artillery and RA,(they are your only hope of killing the large Japanese ground force, you simply canβt win melee battles against higher leveled units) and fall back to the land near Chengdu. You should have an artillery stack made in Chengdu (where the battle is probably raging), and fight against attackers in hills, and try to stop him from reaching Chengdu without melee battles. Remember, put all 10 of your ranged units in 1 stack, because Japanese artillery is level 2 and yours is level 1. If you successfully stopped the Japanese armies, counterattack with fast units(ACs are best), and quickly take all your lost land back, you stand a chance. Then you should use navs to fight the Japanese navy and close in on the island.
In the air the Japanese have absolute superiority, so you should either spend lots on ints (never bombers when facing this sort of war), or build only AA, whichever one depends on you, but you should have them in the highest level possible. If you do this correctly, the Japanese airforce could be stopped.
The most important thing though is to find help. India could help you out against Japan, the other minors around are still too weak on day 1 and they are probably fighting against each other. The USSR canβt help you, they either rule the world themselves or get eaten alive by Germany early game. Wish you good luck playing as China in HWW
