It is strategically very safe. Even if you are bad at Diplomacy, u can have defensive line against France/Germany. Make some naval bombers, interceptors, cruiser-destroyers.
Now, this is the trick I don't really share... Share map with every AI country. U need to become "The Most Popular Nation". This will give you right of way through many bots.
Make a self-depended economy. A full control over the market can help you become powerful.
Once you get a good strategic right if way through a nation, send your army. And start war.
Make sure u don't give shared map to all bots after day 12.
I will write other tips n tricks too.

because u go more and more dreaded. And if u give right of way to bots, they will take down your cores. (when u are inactive sometimes)

That's a suggestion... -_-. Happened to me once. I was off keyboard, for a while, and a bot took my core producing city. I was poland and bot was Latvia.

Not to mention that many players go inactive soon and you can invade France easily. get a cruiser or two and bombard them
