I found myself doing this in my current game. I’m facing a very good opponent and needed to keep on the good side of the AI, so I could focus on them. When trading, you have no idea which country you are trading with so I went to the “All offers” tabs and bought and sold each offer for each resource two or three times for between 1 and 5 units each. It worked because my popularity went up by 2% with the two countries I was worried about. I literally had to complete hundreds of trades and I’m not sure how many were with the two intended countries but desperate times call for desperate measures.jubjub bird wrote:

Popularity with AI
This guide has been updated: 13 November 2021
What is popularity?

Popularity is a score that AI give to you. If your popularity is low they will declare war on you. This counts for computer countries but also inactive players that are taken over by AI. As the inactive players tend to have a lot of troops we want to avoid that they declare war on you.
Diplomacy with AI is very important. When you are fighting a challenging player the last thing you want is being attacked in the back by a player gone AI that declares war on you.
AI never eat, never sleep and they never stop attacking. For many players they can be hard to manage so it's better to keep that flank safe and keep on good terms with them.
So how to keep your popularity high?
First thing you do when you start a new game is to give all AI shared maps. O After day 4 every player that goes AI, I give ROW. Don't give an inactive player AI shared maps as in case he comes back he can see everything you do which is best to avoid. Don't forget to cancel the ROW to peace for returning players.

When you have adjusted all diplomacy settings with AI you do the following:
1st of all the more you trade with them in the market the more friendly you will be to them.
2nd don't skip steps in the diplomacy. If you are at peace, always give trade embargo first and declare war 24 hours later.
3th never attack without declaring war. If you attack without declaring war you get a popularity penalty of -25%.
4th declare trade embargo before declaring war.
5th declaring war to and attacking unpopular nations that AI already declared war on helps your popularity too.
Actions that improve your popularity with AI:
- being enemy with their enemies
- being friends (good diplomatic relations) with them and their friends
- trading with them
Actions that decrease your popularity with elite AI:
- having peace or better relations with their enemies
- having bad diplomatic relations or war with them or their friends
- starting new wars without declaring them
- when producing a lot of troops while already being unpopular
- having troops in their country without right of way
- getting your spies caught by them
- by having the largest army

When you click on a player or AI province I thought the popularity you see represented their average world wide popularity (how much the the world likes them). Since you are saying your popularity went up, it seems to suggest that the popularity value of other countries instead represents how much they like you. Which is it?
Oh right, it must be how much they like you because when you declare war on a country that value is very low. Sorry, I was confused.
When you look at your own, it shows the global popularity, which I believe is just an average. When you click on another country, it shows their popularity specific to you.DxC wrote:

Umm, I just checked this and when you buy at a higher price it will instead do the trade at the lowest price available to you not the trade you clicked on. When you sell at a lower price it will instead sell to the highest bidder available. So it seems like you may have done a lot of useless trading6thDragon wrote:

I was about to say that. I've seen it happen to me before.DxC wrote:

I wonder if that’s a bug. I though I saw the wrong number available go down a few times on the offers when I was doing that. Here I thought I was just sleep deprived.DxC wrote:

If this really works, it should be removed. It is kind of ridiculous to have to do all the clicking required for "hundreds of trades", that's really not fun. Giving all the AI a RoW or share map at the start of a game really is enough of a bore as it is.

It's not a bug, it has worked like that forever. Your trade adviser sees he can get a cheaper price than you clicked on, and he "helps" you by taking it instead.6thDragon wrote:

in an earlier bystro game, trading on the market with live players added stature.
this resulted in having to make hundreds of equal unit trades (e.g. 10k grain for 10k grain)
in order to not lose stature relative to the other players who were willing to
spend the time 'exploiting' this ridiculous game mechanic.
is there a way to make a AI go to peace because i made the mistake of chain invading countries and now the rest of the AI wants my head so what do i do?
It would be nice if you could give resources or cash to an AI country directly to improve your popularity with them. Call it aid or assistance.K.Rokossovski wrote:

No, AI do not make peace. Once you’re at war with them you have to finish them off. They’re not that aggressive and are very predictable, usually pretty easy to beat.Knowles123 wrote:

if the price is a bit to steep I still buy small batches only.
BTW you cant trade with countries you worry about if the have already an embargo in place
Well thats how it should work, so only countries at peace you can deal with, and how much should you worry about them, I have had them drop from RoW to suprise attack, thats pretty low, like human players almost
multi-selection of countries in the diplomatic menu would be great!K.Rokossovski wrote:
