Game of (heavy) gold users vs non gold user elite

Hello all,

No this is not a gold bashing thread - in fact, this is one where gold usage is strongly encouraged.

An idea came to mind. What if we pit the best non-gold user players vs people who spend gold? I for one will be interested what the outcome will be.

The idea is simple, but may need some tweaking depending on who apply. A 5 vs 5 (or 6 vs 4?) game where some of the best non gold players (Im looking at you Para, Milo, Wild, Rogo, Mihail etc) team up against a team of gold using players. Preferably people that are at least of intermediate skill. Heavy gold users are also welcome to join

Advantages of non-gold team: playing ability, high level of teamwork (yes we will use skype and all), and likely online more.

Advantages of gold team: need I explain this? :D

Al the above is in mind that the gold players dont take a second mortgage on their house, even the best players cant counter 1 million gold spending, and face 50+ tanks on day 2.

I am fully aware the chances of the elite team are quite slim, no matter how good they are. Think of it as a game of golf against Tiger Woods, with a slight chance to win and therefore very satisfying if it does happen. For gold users its an opportunity to spend their cash on a quality game versus ample opposition, instead of steamrolling effortlessly on the world map.

I myself may or may not join - Im aware Im good enough, but there are better players out there;).

Sound like a cool idea for testing the game. I would be interested to see the exact results, but I will not consider playing it. My guess is that outcome would depend solely on the gold player. If he is not complete noob and enters the game more than once per day, he will win if he uses so much gold. Perhaps if there would be some restrictions...

ps. I only responded because my name was first on the list. :P

I will pass this thread on to Rogo

Hmm, a pity Para. After all, this game is with the assumption in mind that an elite player equals 2 or even 3 regular players in a fight, and that gold will negate that. I agree with you though, that if a gold player is 'good', the elite team has a big problem (depends on gold amount and how good, of course).

I havent thought out any details yet, just trying to see if there is interest. In my experience most gold players arent too forward in admitting they use gold.

But...somebody...must be using gold....right...right???

Whether gold users tend to frequent the forum, is another matter. I would find it logical they did - you want to be informed as much as possible on the game you pay for, right?

typing in a credit card number takes less effort than scrolling through all of the @Quasi-duck spam ;)

Seems interest is basically none.

Oh well, kinda expected it, but was worth a try

I'd be part of the non-gold users.

i don't see the issue at all. And no...its not because I may or may not be biased.... I have refined my skills over the year of playing CoW, to the extent that I can face most players I come across and beat them(not to brag). Sure, if someone spends their whole pot O' gold there would be a challenge there. But otherwise it really comes down too skill. You won't believe how many people neglect terrain!

thanks Miech for thinking so highly of my skills, you probably overestimate it ;)

But, i really dislike the idea of playing heavy gold users, seems as a complete waste of time and effort, and with lots of frustration.

I just got away from it, joining the alliance and player's league, as I have almost quit the game after my first few weeks here, as on my first two maps I ran into massive gold spenders.

I made one of them pay dearly, but he also had some skill along with willingness to spend 60-80$ ( my estimation of what he spent to defeat me) . With the second one, i just archived the game to avoid the frustration mentioned above.

The difference between one of those random games and this idea (which obviously is failing due to lack of gold users interested...kinda expected none would show up, but had to try) is that here the challenge/achievement/give it a name is clear, and you know that you are up against gold users. On the other end, I hope the quality of the freemium team would be so good, that it would become an equal challenge - with a slight advantage towards the gold team no doubt.

I for one, have a few ideas how to approach this thing as non-gold team and would expect success.

Think back a decade (or 2) when computergames were really, REALLY hard - and remember how you were figure out a way to still complete the game.

I suddenly realise those games are actually the EXACT opposite compared to freemium gaming. How gaming has changed over the years...(and certainly not always for the better).

I think I know what you mean - or that picture regarding the map of Doom (the original one, mind you) and FPS nowadays.

Doom: absolute maze, good luck finding the exit

Nowadays: Just walk a straight line, no you may not turn left or right, dont forget the 20 shiny cutscenes, which you of course cant skip.

Of course im exaggerating (or nostalgic, probably both), but seems games in the 90s/00s were still ehm...games.

Not that all is bad, I can tell you the fact that 'save points' rarely exist anymore is a pure blessing (and leads to me forgetting to save as well:D)

Anyway, I think this thread can be closed for lack of interest. Guess the gold player likes his relative anonimity.
