Alliance Farm & Hilarity

Is it common for higher ranked players/alliances to drop into a game and form seperate coalitions? I'm in a match currently where one player is being protected by another alliance member who created a coalition. They literally walled their coalition members off so the solo player could advance.

I'm guessing this isn't against the game rules? Players should check other's profiles etc?

Anyway, I recorded a quick analysis of this game. Just looking for people to make some grounding points or provide some direction in terms of the community overall and alliances etc.
