An Analysis of the Sea
Naval Units, Simplified.
Naval-to-Naval combat is like a game of rock-paper-scissors. Subs kill Battleships, Destroyers kill subs, and Battleships kill Destroyers. Carriers supply stuff that attacks all three, and Cruisers prevent that stuff from attacking.
Every naval unit has a use. However, certain ones are more useful than others.
For example, in the late game, a sub can defeat a Destroyer a couple levels below it. And a good stack of NBs can easily wipe out a Cruiser.
Sea units generally have higher HP totals then most land units, so battles take longer. And the fact that subs are stealth necessitates Destroyers to scout them.
Experienced naval players tend to make their stacks above the 10-unit limit, for maximum damage potential. In the late game you might find stacks of 10 BS, 10 subs, 10 Destroyer.
And lastly, Naval combat is not necessary. You can win a game without a single naval unit. In fact, there are many non-naval players out there, who say that not having to worry about building up a Navy allows them to get more advanged ground and air units on the battlefield.
