- The US: it is a power house, it starts with a small army and a big navy that eats your oil. Give the US time to develop and it's unbeatable. However i've beaten the US with Canada by attacking at day one by performing a motorized infantry spam. The US most important cities and resource provinces are in the North East. The US is vunerable to an early attack from two sides. If Canada and Mexico ally themselves then it's RIP with the US.
- France: It starts with a good large army but it's a vunerable country surrounded at all sides. There's a high risk of ending up at war with Germany in the early game while you have the UK, Spain and Italy lurking over your shoulder. Fasten your seatbelts if Germany is allied with Italy, knowingly that also spain has axis doctrine.
- USSR: Starts with mainly infantry branch and is therefore vunerable to an attack of Germany who runs high on tanks. The country is huge and almost undefendable. If Russia is at war with a larger nation like Germany or often underestimated Japan then you can be sure that all those small Asian countries will start eating you away slowly. The many Asian countries that all fear Russia combined with both the chance of ending up in war with multiple European and Asian countries at the same time makes it quite challenging.
- Germany: Has the largest army in the game but it wears down it's economy which is quite difficult to handle. Germany is always the cible of the roleplaying dudes. It's pretty probable that you will end up at war with France, Poland, USSR, US and the UK. That's quite a dangerous cocktail.
My suggestion for good but often underestimated games would be:
- Japan: It's cores divided up in islands makes it almost impossible to invade if the player knows what he's doing. Some rockets, RRG and navy make it impregnable. You start with a good foothold in Asia which promotes easy expansion. In your cores you focus on economy, navy and airforce while on the mainland you focus on military production buildings.
- Brazil: It easily dominates South America and only this fact makes it a very interesting partner for the US.
- UK: It's easy to defend with a couple of naval bombers and navy and you don't end up so fast in the European war. With it's many islands it's not very tempting to attack. Attack the UK and you'll be at war the whole game long. The UK can easily build up slowly and pick the winning side in Europe or create a foothold on the mainland.
- Australia: Australia almost never get's attacked. You can get enough points to win the game on the mainland so why even bother. Australia can take down all the islands around it quite easily gathering a lot of points an building a solid economy. After that it can create a foothold in Asia and become a very attractive partner for other players.
