I once won by playing North India. I prefer coastal countries with few bordering human-controlled countries and some AI countries as buffer zone. But you need to develop decent naval force

If Indian countries count I like to start as British Odisha

I use the economic long term strategy and late game I focus on a strong airforce and artillery. I prefer the allied doctrine so I can research faster.
