Wow, this is a long thread. I've got two daughters, that's a big enough daddy for me.
Actually, I tried boxing and struggle to adapt. Back when I was a young Marine, I was also a kickboxer. So I have those instincts in addition to my experience with the US Marine Corps martial art system, and was an embassy guard on top of that so have extensive experience with empty hand control techniques. Remember boxing is a sport, it has a lot of rules; I found those too restricting. No kicking, knees, elbows, chock holds or grappling of any kind; basically no fun. Being in a boxing match (notice the use of the word match and not fight) was a lot like jumping into a call of war map where you can't use arty or planes.
But at the same time, the style of kickboxing I learned to do very well was to use an opponent's overconfidence against them. Basically get them to pounce on a feigned weakness and you got them where you want them. If he's making comments like that, he's already one step in the direction of beating himself.
