its possible that a weak unit was destroyed so the average hitpoint of the stack was the same
Convoys
I am trying to defend against convoys with submarines and destroyers. When my units spot a convoy and attack it, they are causing no damage to the convoy. What's up? thanks.

Each convoy was carrying a single tank. I attacked one convoy with two destroyers , and the other with a single submarine. My ships were at 90% + strength. No damage to either convoy. Both tanks rumbled ashore.
You need to intercept convoys far enough out to sea to prevent disembarking.

I'm pretty sure there is a bug here. I attacked them for a long time before they got to shore (I suspecct it was hours, but some of it happened after my bedtime). I think I recall the convoys having a long time to their destination.
It completely changed the balance of the game, because I was using my naval forces to keep him from outflanking me.
Thanks for your answer, but I think a furtheer look into this is called for. Otherwise, I love 1.5

To prevent disembarking the convoy needs to be more than 5 units from shore.
So if a submarine travels 25 units per hour, the sub needs to be 12 minutes away from the shore to prevent disembarking.

I'm sure I was further from shore than that. However, what about a convoy that is in process of disembarking? Wouldn't, even then, destroyers attacking it have an effect? I'm sorry to belabor this issue, but , though I understand the limitations you are explaining, I'm quite sure they were not in play and I don't know how to think about this in the future. I like using naval and air forces, but need to know how they work. Thanks.
Bombardment by destroyers during disembarking is effective, however this does not delay the disembarking.
Envision a disembarking as a swarm of landing craft launching towards shore. Some of them are likely to make it through even while being shot at.

In my case, it was a single tank in the convoy, bombarded by 2 destroyers while enroute with zero damage incurred. The other case was the same, except it was a submarine attacking, not two destroyers. Thanks for responding, but I'm still convinced there is a bug.
Since this happened after bedtime, how can you be sure that the subs were attacking? You may not even have been at war with the enemy
I was at war with Poland. He was attacking me across the entire front. Then he sent these convoys to outflank me, but I was prepared with naval units to fend them off. My whole defense collapsed when they just went right through my naval defenses. I began attacking, confident that I would sink the convoys. Then, I went to bed. My attacks simply had no effect.
are you sure the convoys didn't change direction?
Yes. I was engaged in attacks on both of them.
can you show the newspaper at the time of the event. It may give more insight
I'd be happy to, if I knew how to do so. It was game # 3,331,575. Evening (8-9pm) on day 15 is when I tried to intercept the convoys. Poland went to Cuenca and Romania went to Murcia. They captured both on day 16. It's very confusing because my air force and 3 countries tanks were really having at it. My naval engagement with their convoys doesn't show up at all, but the tanks in the convoys show up on day 16 in Spain.
If you would be able to tell me how to show the newspaper....
BTW, the game has since ended.
Since there is no newspaper report, it is unlikely that the units engaged at all. Since I actually can't see the game, I would chalk up the incident to the convoys changed course, or they had ships in front of the convoys which absorbed the damage and killed the subs.
Thanks for your patience on this. I believe that, somehow my units didn't engage, but they werre right on top of the convoys and I definitely told them to attack. There were no other naval forces nearby. I really liked my strategy and thought I was going to hold off the three strongest powers who were attacking me. That's why it is such a big deal for me. Those two tanks on my flank were just the straw that broke my back. Is this a great game, or what? Thanks again.
I do have another idea. Do you have high command?
No sir.
