Cruisers

I think that some ships who have a defensive capability against planes, such as cruisers, should be able to attack any planes that are within range, whilst patrolling or whilst refuelling.

@Homer0303 Destroyers, cruisers and battleships have a passive anti-aircraft capability that works when the ships are attacked or when enemy aircraft are patrolling over them; this defensive AA function is automatic, and is similar to the AA capability of all ground units. Submarines have the same passive AA function, but it only applies to their interaction with naval patrol bombers (the only aircraft that can detect subs). In addition, cruisers and battleships have an offensive capability to shell coastal installations, ground units and aircraft on the ground. Check the unit spec sheets for the naval units for more details.

Destroyers can hit aeroplanes and rockets on the ground too.

Are you sure about that? I was under the impression that the in-game DDs had no shore bombardment capability. I've seen rookie players try to bombard ground units all day with DDs to no effect (obviously didn't read the DD spec sheet), but I've never witnessed anyone try to bombard grounded planes or rockets with destroyers. . . .

I know that it sounds strange but yeah I'm pretty sure about that. Of course they do not inflict any damage to normal ground units like tanks, infantry and so on but somehow they can inflict damage to (and even destroy!) planes and rockets on the ground. I remember playing a 100 map months ago and spotting some enemy rockets on the cuban coast with my destroyers. Now, since they could hit my territories on the continent and since my planes where elsewhere, I tried to hit them with my destroyers...and they did it! I've tried this some other times and it works with both rockets and planes too so it wasn't a bug.

Really?

So whilst a plane is refuelling by the sea, cruisers and battleships can still attack them with the normal AA attack?

Yes, I have used several Destroyers, Cruisers, and Battleships as naval artillery pieces in several games. I don't know if it was supposed to happen, but I was able to do it.
