Damage inflicted on buildings

@freezy

I have a question... is there any way to calculate the damage inflicted on buildings?

That is... there is a province with buildings in it and 2 anti-aircraft... a strategic bomber will do damage... what percentage of damage will the buildings be dealt? (and between buildings, is there any way to also know how the damage is distributed? (a tier 2 airbase and a tier 4 barracks and a tier 3 armament factory... which building takes what amount of damage?))

Is there anything specific about this?

The game needs a damage calculator, like we had for the old 1.0 version of the game.

First the anti Aircraft will damage the Bombers. That means the bombers will strike with reduced damage due to loss of HP. Then it's anti unit stats will determine how much damage it does to anti air. It's anti building stats determine how much damage it deals to buildings. Units standing in the province do not absorb any anti building damage.

There is a random roll that determines which of the buildings get damaged (at least 1) or if both get damaged. Then there is a random +/-20% modifier on the damage. The damage is then spread equally among all damaged buildings.

This stuff is also written on the combat page in the wiki

Does that apply when capturing provinces too? I just had a lone L1 armored car capture an empty enemy city. Prior to capture it had 20% of an L1 ordnance factory (damaged by bombardment), 100% of an L1 tank plant, and 100% of an L2 shipyard.

Following capture, it has 20% of an L1 ordnance factory, 100% of an L1 tank plant, and 50% of an L1 shipyard. Of course I was intending to use the shipyard immediately after capture, so wtf. Did I just get unlucky with the random roll that determined which building gets damaged and also get unlucky with the amount of damage applied?

Yes it also applies to building damage occuring during capture.

Would it be possible to get more information about how these rolls are applied? For example, is it a 50/50 roll for each building independently or a 20/80 for each, or ...? Or is there actually a separate roll that determines the number of buildings to be hit and then that number of buildings are randomly selected, or ...?

Actually, since you said "at least 1" it can't be an independent roll for each. So it must be some roll for 2 or more and then that number of buildings are randomly selected?

The wiki doesn't say anything about selecting multiple buildings, only that if one is destroyed then the remaining damage will be applied to another one randomly.

It also says forts have a higher chance to be hit. How does that work; pretend like there are 2 forts and pick randomly?

Each building has the same chance to be hit, unless that the building has a different hitChance configured. The only buildings for which this is true in CoW are fortifications and bunkers, which have a hitChance of 1.5.

So imagine playing roulette with a field for each province building, and the field for fortifications/bunkers is 50% bigger. Then you spin the wheel and see on which field the ball stops.

I have to correct my earlier answer about multiple buildings getting hit, because in that answer I described the intended behaviour, but we have learned since then that there is a bug that prevents multiple buildings from getting damage in 1 hit. So right now it only chooses one building to get the damage. That's why currently you only do 1 roulette spin with 1 ball, basically.

However, if the incoming damage destroys the building completely, then there is another spin for the leftover damage, which can then hit another building.
