Hello, I am writing to express my frustration about uncontrolled gold usage, particularly in the first two to three days of a Call of War game. I joined a World at War round as Queensland, which is in north-eastern Australia. I did my usual researches and constructions, and I took over an inactive New South Wales (the country right below Queensland, in south-eastern Australia), before day 1 ended. Western Australia attacked and took over Central Australia, also before day 1 ended, so at the end of day 1 there were only 2 countries left on the Australian continent.
I sent a message to Western Australia asking if we could be allies. He had created a coalition, and New Zealand and British Odisha were already accepted into it. For some reason, he declined my Right of Way offer, saying that "I'm good for now". I placed 2 spies, an intelligence spy and a military sabotage spy, in one of his rural core provinces with the hopes of revealing all armies. But I didn't want to keep my armies defending my cores forever; as there were enticing targets in Indonesia to go after. Papua New Guina, Sumatra and Borneo all seemed inactive.
However, when I logged in a few hours later, I realized why Western Australia had declined my friendship offer. I logged in to find four New Zealand 10-infantry stacks disembarking on my eastern shore. New Zealand also had several cruisers and destroyers along the coast to guard the convoys as they disembark. I instantly knew that this player was using gold. I wasn't planning on making a large navy in this round, mainly due to a shortage of metal, so I gathered most of the units that I had at the moment (mostly infantry and ranged units) to defend my coast. I could only make 2 stacks that were guaranteed to defeat the 10-infantry stacks on land, so I assembled the 2 stacks in the 2 core provinces that the enemy convoys were disembarking at. (The other 2 convoys were disembarking in land I took from New South Wales, so I wasn't going to worry about defending occupied territory.) I figured that if I spam armoured cars and rocket artillery (I already had research and production facilities for both of these units), I might be able to defeat the 2 stacks up north easily, and could take on the 2 down south.
However, as the New Zealand 10-infantry stacks finish disembarking and start melee with my 2 land infantry/armoured car stacks, something else happens. (This is only 6 hours into day 2 mind you!) Western Australia suddenly declares war, at the same instant dozens of Western Australian stacks come thundering across the border. I looked at the player's game info screen to see how many units of his were visible to me, and there were a total of 78, just that I could see at the moment! They included half a dozen stacks of about 6 to 7 infantry each, along with stacks of armored cars, light tanks, artillery, and tactical bombers. I was VERY furious, but at the same time I decided to stick it out until the end, and make the two of them fight to kill every last unit of mine.
Some time later, I killed one of New Zealand's infantry stacks, and was almost done finishing off the latter. When that happened, I sent one to safeguard my capital, and the other one to try to seize Western Australia's northernmost core city. I hadn't used any War Bonds in the round up to that point, so I had about 50K of them stored up. I used them to heal both of my main stacks back to full health. I still had about 20K War Bonds left. By this time, almost all my units had been killed, except for the ones in my two main stacks. Western Australia sent a stack of 5 light tanks to attack my capital, and I was able to kill it with relative ease. (I built level 2 fortifications in my capital city, partially using War Bonds to speed up the construction, so my stack now had a 45% defense bonus.) Western Australia then brought a stack of 9 artillery to fire upon my capital. I initially sent my stack to go after it and lock it into melee, but I had to bring it back when I saw a Western Australia stack of 12 infantry and 7 armoured cars headed toward my capital. I thought maybe, maybe I would be able to win, but the constant artillery shelling is what did me in. I lost my capital, but I killed quite a few of Western Australia's units, as he won the battle with just 4 armoured cars remaining, as I had wasted all his infantry.
My other main stack was making good progress. I encountered a stack of 4 infantry headed toward my path, so I stopped momentarily and let the infantry attack me. With the defensive stats, I won easily. War Bond back to full health. I was able to capture Western Australia's northernmost city about an hour before day 2 ended, and since I was active at that time, I was able to see what he had built in it. Guess what it had: a fully-constructed level 5 Industry, a level 2 barracks, a level 2 recruiting center, and a level 1 propaganda office! (All his cities were at 100 morale as well.)
I still had the city and a few other provinces at the change to day 3, and my spies (which I forgot I had placed) revealed Western Australia's countrywide armies. He had a total of 139 units, all level 1, AT THE START OF DAY 3!!! Keep in mind that I had defeated 24 of his units during our war, and he had a total of 27 units lost in the round at that point.
Why I wrote this is, I seriously believe that Bytro needs to introduce a cap on the amount of gold spent per day, at least just in the first 3 to 5 days of a game. Being attacked by 2 mass golders is endless amounts of unfair.
