Introduction

On this day of 1939, the Savior thought about what he had said. "The Last one will be the first One". Well, it was time to help the last one in the material world.

But who was the last one ? What is the least popular nation ? Which nation is the last picked at the gym class ?

The Dominican Republic it is. Actually not the worst "one-city" nation, as at least its position is both isolated from the giants (United States excepted) and close enough from other tiny nations. Oh, we'll see.

Day 0 : Finding allies

The people of the Dominican Republic were a peaceful, Christian bunch. They had no standing-up army, only a militia that doubled-down as a police force - 6 units of them. They also had a bunch of old anti-air (2) and direct fire field guns (2), but then only because United Kingdom had a surplus after World War One, and well Haiti bought some so OF COURSE the Dominican Republic had to buy some.

For some reason, the Dominican also had a submarine.

To be Saved, the Dominican had little to work with, certainly. No food. No supply crates. No oil. A tiny amount of metal.

But the Savior had a plan. The Dominican Republic had two things working for it : a massive rare materials surplus - really what was it going to do with it domestically - and a lot of powerful nations with powerful navies in the area and little to do with those Navies, which could quickly become a problem. The Dominican Republic was going to solve a problem with another problem.

Well, there was an obvious mutual interest to make clear to everyone.

The US and British ambassadors were called to the Savior's Church, and informed of a proposal that could be of everyone interest. Of course the language had to be adapted a bit.

Everyone's interest except Haïti and Cuba of course.

Would they accept the offer ? Future will tell.

While waiting for the replies, the Savior talked to the scientists, not as Christian as he hoped for but then that's the scientist habitus. The scientists wanted to develop infantry or tanks, but the Savior saw it as un-Dominicanlike, not appropriate for the unique destiny he prepared his country for. No, because there was so little of everything, the Republic would reseach Commandos, the best unit for the very limited amount of food and manpower the country had. In addition, the Republic being an island, it needed a navy more than a land force, so better destroyers and mighty battleships would be necessary. Finally, with 6 militias, trying to improve what the Republic had was the most economical option.

i pray that the Saviour will guide us throughout this Great Journey to make the Last one to become the First one. I am an ANTHEIST compared to the Great Saviour.

Nicaragua is probably the easiest of the Central American nano-states, thanks to the city next to the sea and having 3 ressources instead of 2. Being so close to the sea allows you to build a battleship to attack Honduras with no risk of retaliation. In addition, your capital has only one road to attack.

Of course, still a OCS (one city State) but the most likely to survive the brawl if all countries are active.

It`d have been suicide if I was alone, got into a small coalition with the small neighbours around me, guess its a win-win

Nice. Keep going :)

Well, I am still around and more powerful than ever (5 cities, should be 9 or 10 tomorrow - while still super weak because well...), but I ponder whether I should continue :

- All players South of Mexico (including Mexico) went inactive except Argentina, who I believe will be inactive tomorrow

- Officially, Germany UK France and Soviet Union are active... but no war. Poland and Italy are inactive.

- Only major power real activity in Japan vs China ; some intermediate powers are ducking it out.

soooo.... boring. I am not sure I want to bother. I guess I ll drop if Germany // Soviet Union // France quit.

At least, Dantzig used this to survive and expand in the Baltics

I would love to see you ally with Danzig and win the game. :)

You should keep playing, if only for the novelty of a Dominican Republic solo victory.

youve written this beutifully. Please keep writing in this format

“I do not love the sword for its sharpness, nor the arrow for its swiftness, nor the warrior. I love only that which they defend.”
“If you win, you need not explain!”
“What difference does it make if destruction is wrought under the name of dictators or in the name of democracy?”
War is Peace
Slavery is Freedom
Weakness is Strength

[note that since I am in France and this game is in English, the "game day" passes around 6 PM so you will see the report everytime covering 2 "game days", so day 1 and day 2 here, day 2 and day 3 for my "day 2", etc...]

Day 1 : The tiny dog with the big stick

As you may remember, the Savior made diplomatic opening to the two greatest naval power : United States and United Kingdom. Only one answered.

Rare Materials was immediately sent because let's be honest - no one wants to say they changed their mind about helping to someone who just sent freebies :). It is also the only contribution I can do and well, gift, counter-gift and all that.

With USA answering positively, the Savior tried to push further - the country was in an incomplete coalition with Canada and the Netherlands. Could it be possible that...

Yes !

Sure. Protect democracy. Very important to the Savior. As long as it is a Christian democracy, of course.

Anyway, now we were into the coalition, it was time to call the riders, I mean the sailors :

The Savior was not familiar with how to speak properly like the diplomats do, but he sure knew how to be humble because he was Very Christian, and also because let's be honest he was Dominican and they were Americans and Canadians.

The mention of Netherlands is due to France, UK and Germany being in one coalition. The Savior did not have the heart to tell them just yet there was no point in sending navy and troops piecemeal in Europe to fail to save Netherlands.

In any case, the Savior even shared his plan :

And soon enough, there were small but very sufficient Canadian and American fleets in the Carribeans :

Big surprise ! Cuba had taken presumably all his troops and was waiting in front of Haiti. This seemed very treachearous to the Savior, what could the Cubans hope to bring to the Haitians ? Well, the Spanish language certainly. But what else ? Doctors ? Yes, maybe. What else ? Really, nothing that a real Christian would need.

In any case, the Cuban troops in the middle of the sea meant that they were not in Cuba, therefore the plan was slightly changed :

One old field gun regiment and one new militia regiment would be rerouted !

Nach Havana !

And a few hours later ...

Courtesy of the Americans and the Canadians, the Cuban transport fleet (13 units in total) was sent to the bottom, along with a submarine, for the cost of ... nothing. Some damage to an American submarine. There were a few more transports along Jamaica, but they would be sunk the following day by the Dominican and American submarines, for almost no more damage.

Let's conclude on the research strategy : The coordination with the Canadians and Americans had not been ideal in reality (the Savior had sent a LOT of memo to get the result he wanted) so the Dominicans would need their own battleships - the Americans would provide the blueprint. With a small domestic production of steel, it was doable, though oil would have to be sourced externally.

In addition, there would be a lot of troop transport by sea in the days to come, and in order to minimize it the Dominicans researched faster transports. We could not afford to lose any troops to a passing submarine, and the less time they spend at sea the least they risk being sunk - we would build destroyers but we would not be able to build enough for efficient escort duty.

Philosific as hell
