Games in COW

So I recently came back after being off of the game for some months and I noticed that a newer rule is you can only create one game per month (or five for HC members). I can see why this change was implemented, but now I seem to have more trouble finding games to get into. For example, nobody creates the 4 man Mediterranean scenario anymore, and some scenarios only have a couple games that are not too late to join. Most games open are 40-100 player games and while that's fine, sometimes I want to play a smaller map.

I appreciate everything the moderators and designers do and realize a review of this isn't high on the priority list, but I felt the want to express it. I'm wondering if anybody else has the same opinion, so I'll insert a poll to collect some data. Thank you for reading.

@Jherin: If there is a shortage of open games on a particular map, I believe the game operators, or at least the senior game operators, have the authority to create a new one upon request. I suggest you ping one of the following:

@Mathex319

@graaf89

@ronon_

@K.Rokossovski

Cheers.

Hiho folks,

I'm gonna be "that guy" Game Operators are NOT allowed to create map types on request and Senior game Operators are NOT allowed to create maps on request, each server has a limit of the amount of running maps per scenario, this helps to prevent server lag and game spam and also allows for games to fill, become ranked and give the chance for all those in rounds to to play a game which will reward you if you make it to the end.

Only a limited number of maps can be created per type per language. This is to minimize inactive games. You can still open them if you select "starts when full" as this would ensure the game becoming active.

As for opening 100p maps, the support team can do it, but a certain number of confirmed players are required for that, because, as I mentioned we do not want rounds with many open or inactive slots. You can contact our support team with your request and a list of players that are confirmed for participation.

@Dr. LeipreachΓ‘n & @freezy: So what's changed here?

The original party above, @Jherin, could not find a 4-player Mediterranean map. I checked; he was correct that there were no Med maps available. Per Freezy's comment above, who is this "staff" who can create maps upon request that includes a complete set of names who want to play? If a new map is created upon request, and it's FULL, isn't that what the new policy was all about? Your comment above is the first I have seen that publicly suggests that the idea is to limit the number of all maps purely for reasons of server speed, etc.

Hi, as stated in my comment I was talking about the 100p map, which cannot be created by normal users. These system generated maps can also be created by the support staff for certain pre-planned events or community games (hence the requirement of having a list of players ready), but this is an exception.

There shouldn't be the need for support staff to also create smaller maps, as these can be created by the players themselves and it would create too much work load for support to do it. Support is not there to help players circumventing the 1-game-per-month rule. If no one uses their 1-game-per-month (or 5 per month as HC, *hint*) to create those games, then demand for these maps might be too low.

@freezy: I just checked the available new games. None of the following are available as new games:

1. No new 4-player Mediterranean map games;

2. No 10-player European map games;

3. No 10-player European historical map games;

4. No 22-player European map games (one was only available with gold features); and

5. No 25-player world historical map games (9 were only available with gold features).

Do you see a problem here? Especially for new players? Some of these maps are favored by new players, and are less likely to be created by L11+ experienced players. Which brings us back to the original comment above; 4- and 10-player maps are among those favored by newbies for learning experience, where they can learn without getting crushed by experienced players. Even more bizarre, there were no new 22-player "Clash of Nations" European maps ---- which is the most basic map of all.

I haven't started a new game since the new game creation limitations were put in place, but I have never seen so few open new games in my 21 months playing Call of War. "So few" as in ZERO. I thought the "system" was supposed to generate new games when there were none of particular types available.

Far be it from me to counsel the Bytro Labs brain trust on its business model, but if new players can't find open games, how many newbies do you think are going to stick around to buy gold and join High Command?

two relatively noticeable things:

1. Is there even a point for 2-player English Channel any more? nobody plays it freely, since there is no reward and since you cannot create more than one map a month, people prefer to play on the larger maps.

2. There is an overflow of alliance, passworded and gold games games. What is your average Joe going to do, if he wants to play a smaller map?

I've never seen a Mediterranean map, and I've been on the game for some time now.

In the absence of available games to join, you can always:

"Watch online hd tv in your pc"

there seems to be more offers from those folks, than from the current administration.

What WayneBo said: ROGLMFAO.

Now, the enormity of the evil conspiracy has become clear to me, sir. The Bytro Labs brain trust and the video link spammers are secretly in cahoots!

[BTW, has anyone seen a smiley face emoticon with a tinfoil hat?]

I got you one. We mass produce these in Canada along with hockey sticks and maple syrup

Thanks for the feedback, we are still reviewing the map availability.

There actually was a bug with the 22p map visibility in the games list, it is fixed now so you should ALWAYS see a joinable 22p map. That map should be enough to gain the necessary ranks to play the bigger maps.

I joined the 25 player map and Cuba was a playable country. Is this a glitch? It doesnt produce metals or oil. There are plaenty of other countries like Norway or South Africa or New Zeland or Egypt that are easier to play.
