How do submarines attacks?

I have a question about submarines. What will happen to the attack of a submarine if the submarine is in a fleet with warships that attacks from a range? Because submarine need to be as the same place as the target when attacking.

The submarine doesnt deal damage.

The sub will only add more health to the stack and will function as a damage absorber so that your warships take less damage and can fire longer before being destroyed.
