Is Call of War in its final form?

It’s been more than 2 years since Bytro has made an actual change to gameplay. While the UI and graphics changes have been nice, nothing besides balancing has changed on the gameplay side. Does Bytro have anything planned for it?

Only the developers really know, but one thing to consider is that the game came out in 2015, and they only implemented a new system in 2020. Based on that time frame and the current system working fine, it's probably unlikely that we will see anything new soon.

I remember reading that they did want to add new stuff in, and there were plans to move on from 2.0 and add more. So I do think they could very well have plans. Then again they might just stick with the current formula and leave it as it is. I think one thing I’d really like to see more than anything else though is new maps, and I haven’t heard of any plans for those.

It’s hard to know though. They may very well have plans and want to add things, but it’s not easy to take a risk from your tried and true method, even with beta testing. I remember huge pushback against 1.5 and especially 2.0, thinking the game was ruined with the loss of the legacy setting. So for bigger and more long term changes It’s even harder to actually try and implement them with the fear of failure breathing down Bytro’s neck.

I think there may be some more minor changes, bigger than balancing but smaller than something similar to the urban centering updates coming up relatively soon. Perhaps new units and aspects like unit rebuilding could be coming, but to be honest I don’t see something drastic down the line, at least any time soon.

If they don’t want to add anything drastic, I get it. I just want to see something get changed.

I can feel that. I see nothing wrong with a new map or scenario, maybe?

Oh there are many ideas in the backlog. The game will still evolve.

We will most likely focus first on features that are pretty common on the market but that CoW is still lacking. Some of them are not gameplay related but necessary (like proper social features), while others can affect gameplay as well (like a metagame that allows players to unlock new content or buffs for their account by playing in matches). So in the near future I don't see us focussing as much on small and local gameplay additions and rather on broader strategic improvements.

Perhaps we will experiment also a bit more with new features to see if they work before developing a huge update around them.

the best thing to know is that we want to have more updates :)

Yes, It was not in it’s final form.

No, but the whole Inventory and Operations features are stepping stones to get to one.

It's great to hear that there are many exciting ideas in the backlog, and it's clear that the game will continue to evolve and improve. Focusing on common features that the game is currently lacking, both in terms of gameplay and social aspects, is a smart move. The idea of a metagame to reward players for their engagement is intriguing and could add depth to the gaming experience.
