T-34 was more efficient of a tank and better for the war of attrition the USSR was fighting. Panther was better 1v1, but in their intended roles, the T-34 did more for its country then the panther did.

Gorbachev succeeding in his reforms would be a much better timeline.

Gorbachev was kinda lax about stuff. But in a way it was good, if someone else took over instead of him the USSR might still be around.Carking the 6th wrote:

Hopefully theyโd let Central Asia and the Baltic states go (probably the Caucasus too) but Ukraine Russia and Belarus managing to remain stable and never become enemies while democratizing would be quite nice.Brando Dilla wrote:

That was happening, until 2014 when Ukraine got a radical pro-West government.Carking the 6th wrote:

Eh their economy was falling apart and population declining. Ukrainian oligarchs are the reason itโs so poor these days. Being a Pro-Russian puppet definitely didnโt help. Seeing how countries like Poland did after westernization it only made sense. Sadly Russian oligarchs and Putin didnโt want their guys removed and took action.
Had the USSR managed a stable democratic transition without fully collapsing the oligarchs could have not risen. Russian democracy would have not failed. Kinda weird how the USSR collapsing, at least so suddenly caused democracy to weaken.

And there is still a big contrast between west and east europe... ppl in the east are going to the west for better jobs etc. and population of most ex-communist countries are fallingCarking the 6th wrote:

Vote
Of course! But look at Belarus Ukraine and Russia, their population sinks rapidly, even before the war. Poland is somehow growing economically (kinda), while people in these countries (especially rural areas) have not been having a fun time for the last few decades. Considering the alternatives most of Eastern Europe is doing far better than it could have.
