It isn't. Slang, is in itself, a slang word. Slang is just the contraction of two words to make another (differentiated from words such as, you're, you'll, I'll, I'd. Because Slang words are not in the dictionary). Slang is just the contraction of the two words, Short-Language.

As long as everyone knows what the slang word in question is being used for, it doesn't matter. People could get confused about the meaning of other, 'official' words too - for example, the word 'gay' can mean happy, but it can also mean homosexual.
This is the concept of Wittgensteinian Language Games, which are quite interesting if you look into it - I study it as part of my philosophy course on epistemology.
