Saw your post yesterday, had to sleep on it. I'm new myself. 90 days yesterday, got 6000 gc reward.
Read everything, search everything, watch the videos.
Understand the armor classes, their strength and weaknesses. The armor classes are on Wiki.
Experiment a lot. I have only completed 2 rounds out of probably 15. I tried all the doctrines, most of the equipment.
Doctrines, geography and terrain play important roles. Understand them.
