Nuclear Units

So according to the newspaper report, my atomic units destroyed each other and all of my defending ground units. Is that something that can happen? There are no reports of any offensive rockets and no sign of enemy troops near the city. Here is the newspaper article.

Atomic Bomber Squadron annihilated

7:00 pm Nashville: The 39th Artillery Regiment (Carribbean) (CH 39) has been destroyed by the 2nd Atomic Rocket Regiment (Carribbean) "Castro's Revenge".

7:00 pm The Nuclear Bomber "Che's Revenge" (Carribbean) has been destroyed by the 2nd Atomic Rocket Regiment (Carribbean) "Castro's Revenge".

7:00 pm Nashville: The 5th Atomic Bomber Squadron (Carribbean) (CH 5) has been destroyed by the 2nd Atomic Rocket Regiment (Carribbean) "Castro's Revenge"

Yup. Nuclear detonations are the only kind of "friendly fire" that can destroy your own troops. In COW, no artillery, airstrikes or rockets attacks can harm your own units. That said, be very careful when you are targeting enemy units when allied units are close by; you can accidentally target allied units and start an unintended war with any ally ---- which can get very messy, very quickly when you have a lot of allied units in close proximity to your own.

I understand how friendly fire can be an issue, however I was away all night at work. I never gave them any orders.

Wow. Seems we have a bit of mystery then. I have used in-game nukes quite a bit, and I've never had an accidental detonation, and as far as I know, that can't happen.

I forgot to add that 4 rockets and 1 atomic rocket survived.

the only thing i can offer is:

Did you give your newspaper reporter a field sobriety test?

Because it sounds like your reporter spent too much time at the bar and was a bit confused when it came time to file the story.

Can you ask your neighbors in that game if they nuked you, but it got reported wrongly as your own nuke? That would make the most sense. Not a lot of sense, but some.

Did you have your bomber patrolling?

Edit: sorry, it was the rocket that did the homicide.

You can attack a city a rocket is based in with that rocket, perhaps you accidentally ordered the strike on the city

We...won't discuss how I know that can happen.

I didn't think you can target your own territory with rockets, nukes, airstrikes or artillery unless there are enemy units present.

Perhaps it was a unit closeby, was long ago
