Since the time that it has been, COW gaming has now, yet again received another update. This time the paratroopers are in need of further time consideration, yet the game balancing is more suited to allow for the descent idea of the airborne trooping.

The opinion of the paratrooper unit to be introduced was exciting and yes, everybody was eager to try this, however, unfortunately I will have to make another thumbs down on the paratrooper unit on yet again, time constraints.

This will be also considered by past threads made specific to this introductory unit.

Fun Fact: This year is the 50th anniversary of DB Cooper.

Paratroopers are good units, as K.Roki said, if used properly and at the same time with majoe ground/air assault.

Ur not gonna just drop one somewhere and let it die.

Plus they can take out undefended cities, e.g. Paris, Moscow

AND one time i had 17 paratroopers, launched all at USSR, won ez

plus if you have lots you can just take all cities which are usually undefended.

I thankyou for your post Grand Empire. I will hope to share your enthusiasm on the paratrooper unit so as that I too, might be able to take victory using this option. Mostly when it comes to paratrooper units gameplay in COW, I am mostly obliterating these, that is why I am a sceptic of this unit.

My understanding on paratroopers realtime and gaming is limited, as I do prefer commando and infantry combination, however I have one question that I would like to gain some feedback on.

Q: How successful are paratrooper landings in real time warfare on cities, cityscape etc?

Yes, but i think your enemies arnt using them smart. iN real life, paratrooper units practically melt, but in the game, their a proper unit. If your using paratroopers, its to split up enemy forces, create confusion, or take vital provinces, and then launch a ground/air invasion at the same time. One good example is Germany or France invading the UK: Naval bombardment, Paratroopers take cities/ports, hold the ground while land units disembark.

Hopefully you will be able to use Paratroopers in your quest for victory! (sounds so cheesy)

Hmm. Very useless id say in real life if your asking. Cities are always covered with AA and an Air Patrol, so paratroopers, even escorted, would get massacred. Lets say they land even, maybe hold the city a bit, then the garrison comes and your ded, plus a city in real life is BIG, a few thousand paratoopers cant do much, except maybe disrupt caches/supplied, maybe create chaos? . So in real WWII commanders mainly tried to use paratroopers to take small objectives, like bridges in Market Garden, and we all know how well that went, Monty dont we !!?

Also that paratrooper landings in cities can make numerous casualties as troops will splat into buildings and be stomped by local populations....but hey, thats what propaganda is for....right.

ok. so it is that the paratrooper unit within COW game is not accurate on terrain properties. Cities should mean a - %50, or at least while they are in loading time.
