In one of the world maps I'm in, I was triple teamed, and invaded by a guy who betrayed me (Texas) and I ended up losing all my land. (NUS was a shitty country anyway; even the name is lame 
)
Even though I was invaded, I still have like 2 infantry hiding in the ocean, and I can still post in the news. So far, Texas has betrayed 3 of his allies and it looks like he's just going to keep doing that, so I decided to just keep posting anti-Texas "propaganda" for kicks. It's actually been hilarious, and I would recommend this to others if you want to keep participating in a game.
Anyway, I feel like this would be incredibly annoying if it happened to me, but I don't really care cause the guy was an @$$hole and I want to warn people.
So, what do you guys think about the practice of posting in the newspaper after you've been defeated? Feel free to share your funny newspaper stories or anything really regarding the news.
The newspaper in one of my games got pretty heated. So long as you kept too much acid out of your posts it sounds like a fun thing to do.
It is a viable tool. One poor player got sabotaged by like ten different player's spies just because he picked the UK and the newsfeed got to talking about the ills of British Imperialism.
The mob is a fickle bunch.
i could work especially if you have others supporting the claim, but try not to go overboard on it, some might think your venting anger and ignore it or your just trolling. but having allies supporting it to add some weight it can work.
I've done this too, @salbalkus. I was South Sudan, land-loked, bullshit country. I keep posting on the news, trolling people. So much fun! I posted an article about a civil war going on in the U.S., and Kentucky answered that they were fighting agains Canada. I posted a joke:

'Cos there's nothing woth crapping on.
They guy got so angry. Had a good laugh over that.
