I know when I was drawing up a spec sheet for a possible new airborne infantry regiment, one of the considerations was silk for parachutes, and real silk was definitely a war-time rare material in 1939-45. Also, if we don't have separate transport plane units, then some metal for an airborne infantry unit must be attributed for their implied means of transport. Similar logic/rationalizations can be applied to our commandos unit.

oh yeah, your pic is one of greatest fails: lonely transportships could be oneshoted by submarines, and you would not even see that.
