Stealth ambush on artillery

Here I'm sneaking up with militia to melee attack this art. I suspect to one shot it and receive only about 0.8 defensive damage. However, since they have rigged the AI artillery to fire first when attacked by ranged units I'm slightly curious if this will also apply to this situation and cause me to instead lose 3.3 + 0.8 damage. I'll let you know.
