Well the funny thing about Rome (mainly the republic) is that we are going along a similar path (at least the US is). Politics in rome became increasingly polarized between left-right politics specifically over government distribution of land, grain, and money. Politics went from aiming to compromise to get the best of left and right policies to attempting to remove, and eventually kill, politicians of opposite ideologies. In the US, a poll among democrats in the US showed that 26% saw the republicans as a threat to the nation, the same poll was done among republicans and 36% saw the democrats as a threat to the nation (https://www.pewresearch.org/politics/2014/06/12/political-polarization-in-the-american-public/). Similar polarization and hate occurred in Rome where supporters of Marcus Antony would hate with all their blood supporters of Cicero as they believed in opposite ideologies.
In other words, I just wrote a mini-essay with sources for everyone.
Lmao. I actually have a whole powerpoint about the similarities. It was a task. Can i post powerpoints here?

Convert it to PDF and then post it here. Animations won't comethrough but its the best you'll get. Alternatively put it in a ZIP file and attach that if you wish to keep it in ppt form.
OK hopefully i will remember to do so later. But this is from YEARS ago so dont bully me for it. Also i didnt fact check it so it may be "wrong" in some places.

I teach Roman history with my AP US Government and Politics class and might have a similar comparison document that I used to show the strong resemblance of Roman collapse and modern US political atmosphere.
What whowh said a couple posts above this is so true and alarmingly not that many people make that connection...
