I would participate, but I would need a matrix with unit stats, 'cause I am not playing at the moment so I can't reach them
Unit Stack Contest
Unit Stack Tactics Contest
INTRODUCTION: I was thinking about this as there has been a lot of discussion with the new update on 1.5 and unit efficiency when in stacks of 10 (or more in some cases). I thought of a fun way to discuss, debate and assess army stack compositions in a little bit of a contest and debate format.
PREMISE: This could be extremely beneficial to new players reading the forum to gain some insight on tactics and unit compositions plus attack and defend metrics.
It is not lost on me that this will serve to be valuable for intermediate and veteran players too! As we open up on different stacks, unit strengths/weaknesses and terrain use we will find many players using tactics that we have not thought of!
HOW IT WORKS:
Every week or so (depends if I am travelling) I will post a scenario with this template:
- Game run time (Early, mid, late game)
- Doctrine: (Allies, Axis, Pan Asian, Comintern)
- I assign the doctrine you will use: (Allies, Axis, PanAsian, Comintern)
You will then be able to interact with the scenario by posting a comment with:
YOUR RESPONSE:
- Your best stack of 10 (you get the say on what you want in your compositions of the stack, you just need to be realistic in terms of setting and upgrades so you won't be attacking a stack of level 1 infantry with Maxed out Heavy tanks on early game
)
- Change your combat status (Attacking, Defending, Range Attack, Combo, Patrolling)
- A brief analysis of your tactics and argue your case!
DEBATE PHASE:
- We will do a few days of discussion and debate on the thread.
- Comments can be critical but need to be professional, respectful and constructive.
VOTING PHASE:
- After a few days I will pick the top 3 responses that had the most feedback or likes on them and will post them in a poll for the community to vote on. Again I'm not putting a time frame on this because this is just for fun but definitely want to encourage some lively and engaged discussion! (but I also have a life and love to travel)
... if this works well I'll continue doing this because there are all types of unit stack and updates coming out that will lead to some interesting unit compositions. I look forward to seeing what you all have to offer and I know I will gain something from this too!
FIRST SCENARIO (Jan 21, 2021)
- Early Game (Days 1-3)
- Doctrine: PanAsian
- Doctrine: Allies

I would like one of those too
Honestly, the answer to this is really just 10 heavy tanks.
For future ones, you should provide a limit on what units and how many may be used.
IE scenario 1 could be:
5 infantry
3TD
3AT
4 light tanks
4 mot inf
etc..
You can probably achieve a comparable effect with much less than 10 heavy (eg one medium, and AT/militia), and that would be preferable
well 10 heavies is the easiest answer but yes, you are right.

If wanting to participate please make sure to read the entire scenario description!Tribunate wrote:

It is extremely unlikely to have 10 heavy tanks on day 1-3whowh wrote:

These are land battles, right? So air is a no-go?
In that case, I'd go:
3 infantry
3 AT
3 AC
1 MT (TD even better - but lets be realistic, I don't do TD)
I'd expect to need to do some work on the paint of my vehicles, but not much damage otherwise while massacring them.
You could maybe have the same results for cheaper by swapping some of the infantry by militia and get the bonus in hills.K.Rokossovski wrote:

If you are allies, it is realistic that you would do TD, and given it is in hills, I suspect 4 militias and 2 TD in defense in hills would win the battle. You could had more armor and remove militias if you want to rebalance "cost vs losses".
A totally different alternative would be "ANYTHING WITH HEAVY ARMOR" x2 receiving the enemy stack, and as much artillery as you can pack behind.
Militia is certainly much better for jungle and hill combat. The issue I find is with the 1.5 production system it is best to leave militia at level one to allow quick production to boost captured cities.
Do you think you would be able to have this amount on day 1-3?vietcong2005 wrote:

Well technically it's not a stack, but if you really wanted to stop them I'd say
5 Infantry
5 tactical bombers on patrol above the province

6 Mech INF
4 TD
10 infantry (lazy) or
10 militia (low cost)
yes i am very lazy when making troops, i don't think TDs will be much good against the infantry tho, but overall a TD+Infantry/militia combo will win..

Yeah but that would take time and by that time the province would have probably already fallen.vietcong2005 wrote:
