I agree with both of the following statements:
1. Good, but actually nerf the weapon as opposed to adding an oil upkeep.
2. I like it, but don't like that it is affecting me (or other player(s)) mid-game.
As many of you know, there has been a new update yesterday that has affect many players in the CoW Community modifying many requirements to build a weapon and modifying the capabilities of a weapon, specifically the nerfing of the rocket (now made an upkeep of 100 oil per day and made it so lvl 2 and up must be built on a lvl 2 airbase or higher). I have heard many complaints and many praises of this new update, and I was curious to see what your opinion is.

I feel like this update has the potential to be a good change in making rockets better, but an upkeep of 100 is absurd and defeats the purpose of the unit. Rockets were meant to be cheap and easy to produce, with no upkeep in order to allow them to be pumped out in large quantities. This style of rocket usage gives a distinct advantage to gold users, however, an upkeep of 100 per unit forces rockets to be used in small quantities, rendering them basically useless. Only in massive stacks do rockets have any strategic value. Not only that, but rockets are one use units and cannot target moving units, making them very hard to maneuver. A unit which requires such precision to manage should not have an upkeep equal to a light tank. I believe an upkeep could be very useful in stopping gold spam rocket strategies, but unless it is lowered to a more reasonable number like 25 per day (that's not very low considering rockets are absolutely dependent on massive quantity to work) I'm afraid the rocket as a unit will be completely forgotten. And the fact that this update affects already existing games is simply ridiculous! It crushes the economy of rocket using players and forces them to alter their research and production to deal with an unexpected change mid game- something that can spell downfall for many developing nations.
As explained in the news, even one rocket has higher damage output vs. buildings than buildings have hitpoints. But keep in mind that rockets are multiple times cheaper than buildings. In the same vein rockets also have higher damage than most units have HP, but are cheaper.
If they are used in the right way they are very cost effective in small quantities. For example target all enemy provinces that have industry complexes. Or target enemy provinces where an airforce is idling in an airbase. You may just need to adjust the way you use them to maximise your profit. They are not meant to be a counter vs regular moving armies.
We went with adding an upkeep to make sure that they can't be spammed as subsitute for regular units and without any consequence, now you have to plan ahead when using them, making them more the high risk high reward kind of weapon that they were envisioned.
I think poll should exclude the issue with current players which is clearly unfair to them. I do like the change in general. I would probably start off with 75 oil though instead of 100 and see how that goes.
I think the main problem now is the combination of maintenance and (slow) speed. Especially on the big maps, and with big empires, they take DAYS to get anywhere near the front... that wasn't a problem before (well it was... but hey), but now it is a serious one... especially since the upkeep is paid in OIL which is the rarest resource (along with food) in the longer games. If devs feel maintenance is really necessary, why not pay rares?freezy wrote:

Hmm, why we talking about the oil upkeep for rockets? I mean it must be clear that this unit needs oil for upkeep. Most units in CoW needs oil for upkeep except infantry. It was a bug before the update and now it's fixed.
The only argument i can except is that we split the upkeep into 50 Oil and 50 Grain.
But the problem with the oil in late game is not a problem of upkeep for some rockets. The problem of the oil is that we have no chance to raise the production from mid game on. We need to raise the production in few (3) non core provinces from 25% to 50%.
This must be expensive buildings like the nuclear reactor and can only build three times.
I had 100+ rockets in my global game, i had a decent 600+ oil per hour, now at 22+ per hour...
Still can't get rid of them for 2-3 days...
